Big smoky dark malty nose has some earthy roasted notes. Starts fairly full and well-carbonated with a touch of sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts and lots of smoky complexity. Finishes smoky and bittersweet with lingering roasted smoky dark malt. A very nice smoked porter. shp555 (1681), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 17, 2008 Bottle. First beer of my ’St. Patrick’s Day Stouts & Porters Mini-Tasting’. Man, I’ve drank tons of these and never rated it, I’m now down to my last bottle and finally getting to it. Pours black with tons of tiny bubbles and an average size diminishing foamy tan head. Lovely smoky aroma along with roasted malt, some chocolate, dark fruit, nuts and hops. Flavour’s just as nice. Nice and peaty with roast malt, chocolate, some wood and a good amount of hops -- pretty well balanced, especially if you like the style. Dry finish. Alcohol’s well hidden. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied. Very well done, one of the best Smoked beers on the market in my opinion. KnutAlbert (3126), Oslo, Norway

Beige over ruby tinged dark beer. Smokiness, full body, well balanced. Roasted grain.
The sweet malt and the smoke blends very well together. Imperial-John (156), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Outstanding strong smokey aroma that invites you to try it. Almost black with a small beige head. Smokey ham taste, not dry at all. The aroma continues to entice as you drink it. Does have hints of Scotch aroma to it too. Thanks go to HogTownHarry for the opportunity to try this. JorisPPattyn (5167), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Almost no head, greige rim; near-black beer. Inviting smokey-phenolic nose. Smoked bacon/sausages, but also campfire woodsmoke, ironoxide. Dry-woody taste, with lots of tobacco-ashes, point of chocolate. Only faintest of smoked meat esters here, no fattiness, just dry & phenolic. Warming up, it gets more and more Islay malt-like, which doesn’t spoil a thing! Very rounded, soft-velvety MF, just a touch chewy. Is it the conditioning? The bottle? Or the other beers tasted at LCRBM07? Anyway, this seems to come out better than the Unfiltered version! Grand merci encore à mon pote Sylvain! larsga (2959), Oslo, Norway
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2008 Medium yellowish beige head. Deep dark amber body, barely translucent. Smoky, malty, caramelly aroma with meaty, bready notes. Sweet bready yeasty chocolatey taste with powerful smokiness. Rounded, soft mouthfeel. Full-bodied. Wonderfully distinct and clear smoke taste, which blends excellently with the porter taste. Excellent. (0.341l bottle traded from glouglouburp.) wetherel (1591), Encinitas, California, USA
