Dark brown color with red highlights and a medium sized tan head. Aroma of smoked, roasted malts with a bit of "meatiness" to the smoke as well as some coffee. Flavor was on the sweet side, with lots of brown sugar, dark chocolate, smoky malts and a smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel. Thanks Dany! egajdzis (3621), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 17, 2007 Poured a deep, dark brown color, red around the edges, with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malts, sweet chocolate, and some roasted malts as well. Sweet chocolate, up front, with roasted malts, and a sweet, smokey, meaty finish. Moderate bitterness in the end. beastiefan2k (1597), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA

This was the last of 5 smoked beers for the night. Pours black-hole black with a small off-white head. Aroma is strong, starts with a rich fumy chocolate (think rich expensive dark chocolate). Then followed by hints of smoke and the way your hair smells after slaving over a charcoal grill all day long. Taste is very bitter-roasted-end-of-espresso, amplified. Some very mineral-like smoke. Yet it’s a pretty quaffable beer with hints of sweetness wrapped around a long bitter finish. No hint of alcohol. Basically, it’s a very rich chocolate beer with hints of smoke, how much cooler can you get. 341ml bottle, Hobgoblin tulip glass Soonah (925), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2007 From trade with french tickler. The pour was ultra-dark brown with some lighter brown and ruby highlights struggling to escape the dark void. The head was tan, one-finger tall and offered up minimal amounts of lacing. The aroma was a very nice blend of smoke and caramel initially. As it opened up floral hops and chocolate came through as well. The flavor was thin smoke flavor with caramel and floral hops taking center stage. Some burnt coffee and chocolate as well. The finish was fine and the mouthfeel was medium bodied. Little if any alcohol heat noted. Thanks again JC! Dickinsonbeer (3449), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Pours a nice deep dark brown almost black with some ruby highlights and a thin tight head. Aroma is initially smokey, campfire, and lot sof smoked ham and spiced sausage then some woody hints like cedar, sweet malts and some brown sugar. Sweet molasses flavor, some charred black malts, chocolates, nuts, and a good amoutn of smoke and wood. Fairly smooth overall with a slight papery finish with some more char. Very nice smoked beer. radiomgb (1958), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Ruby brown in colour, fair sized tan coloured head, good retention, some lacing. The aroma didn’t have as much smoke as the unfiltered version but its still there, rich, earthy, light sweetness, dark chocolate, light coffee. The flavour had a perfect balance of smoky earthyness to a bit of hop bite with some light alcohol thrown in, lots of bittersweet chocolate. Sweet smoky mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes lingering, smooth, smoky and sweet. Very good, just a bit less smoke than in the unfiltered version.
