shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Sep 11, 2009 12 oz bottle. THanks Glouglouburp for my second "smoked." Pours dark brown with pretty much no head. Aroma is smokey chocolate, coffee, mildew, campfire. neat. Flavor is much the same with a slight bitterness to it. An interesting beer. The smokiness was enjoyable. The GF didn’t care for it. Would love to try more from this style. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 3, 2009 Pours dark brown near black, very light head despite hard pour. Big meaty cured hammy aroma. Big smoky flavor. Without seeing the color, I would be hard-pressed to tell this apart from a Schlenkerla Marzen. Full-bodied, strong and hearty. Very tasty. Savvy1982 (303), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Aug 21, 2009 Bottle. Nice and smoky, pretty coffeeish notes as well. Some fruit, well balanced and rounded, but nothing really cries out to me with this one. Good, but falls short of great. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA Aug 15, 2009 bottle, via trade with glouglouburp. black color with scaly foam, aromas of strong smoke, maple syrup, flavors of smoke, barbq rib tips, peaty, slight metallic, bitter finish Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 6, 2009 Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has primary notes of chocolate, but also lighter notes of smoke, rope, and tar. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, beechwood smoke, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, roasted, and bitter finish. craftycarl21 (513), South Hero, Vermont, USA Jun 30, 2009 Pours dark brown with minimal head. Aroma is very smoky, with notes of bacon, salt, and campfire. Flavor is quite nice- exceptionally smoky and roasty, very flavorful; unique and damn good. Jblauvs (531), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jun 29, 2009 Brown pour slight head. Aroma is loads of bacon and campfire with some salty, peaty notes. Flavor is also very smokey with certain bacon notes. sweet malt abounds with a touch of roast. PLeasant oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Jun 29, 2009 Very dark brown pour with nearly no head. Aroma is loaded with (oddly enough) bacon, smoky peat, and an overall grand smoky and chalky nose. Flavor is very sweet with a backbone of bitter roast, and a definite smoky aspect. Sweet malt comes through as well. Palate is medium to full with very mild carbonation and a dry bitter malt finish.
