Poured dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy smoke, toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet smoke flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
My expectations where exceeded and this beer would go well with a cigar. shawnm213 (917), South Bend, Indiana, USA

Pours dark brown with pretty much no head. Aroma is smokey chocolate, coffee, mildew, campfire. neat. Flavor is much the same with a slight bitterness to it. An interesting beer. The smokiness was enjoyable. The GF didn’t care for it. Would love to try more from this style. minch25 (355), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Pours dark brown near black, very light head despite hard pour. Big meaty cured hammy aroma. Big smoky flavor. Without seeing the color, I would be hard-pressed to tell this apart from a Schlenkerla Marzen. Full-bodied, strong and hearty. Very tasty. Some fruit, well balanced and rounded, but nothing really cries out to me with this one. Good, but falls short of great. blutt59 (2100), Dallas, Texas, USA

The aroma has primary notes of chocolate, but also lighter notes of smoke, rope, and tar. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, beechwood smoke, and roasted malt, leading to a dry, roasted, and bitter finish. craftycarl21 (543), South Hero, Vermont, USA
