CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Aug 1, 2008 12oz Bottle. Fresh roast pig, toasted char, and some seared duck fat. Nice. Pours a rather still black-brown,
with not much head. Flavor is crisp and piquant. Pecan smoke. Palpable fresh fires, Canadian
spruce branches, and Christmas hearth. A bit of caramel. Fresh, prickly carbonation. Great smoke
flavor, great well-caramelized malt blending. A bit of hops. Crisp alcohols carry great flavor.
Body is balanced. Dry. Nice! Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 29, 2008 A thick smoked porter. Satisfying and what porter can be. Black, small white topping. Concentrated smoke in a bottle with hickory and some chocolate, and a sipper.Aroma is barbeque sauce. Salty.Understated carbonation. Not for the fainthearted. Thanks probtsk. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear brown body with a small fizzy beige head that fell to a wispy film. A bit understated on the smoke in the nose with some roast and chocolate malt. The smoke is quality though, with a campfire feel to it. Lots of smoke in the flavor though, and that’s where it counts. Great earthy wood smoke with just an accent of roast. Nice smooth soft mouthfeel with perfect soft gentle carbonation. Some lingering sweetness with the lasting smokiness. A great Smoked beer. Very well hidden alcohol for an almost 8% ABV. I could drink this all night if I were camping. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jul 25, 2008 330. Thanks, Dany! Pours black with a dense but brief fizzy, creamy tan head. Nice blended nose of roast, campfire, licorice, and even a tiny bit of peppery, rauchy bacon. Medium, creamy body. Tingling carb that’s not quite stinging but fairly present. Dark roasty body, campfire and ash on the mid-palate, along with bits of chocolate and roast. Really delicious. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jul 21, 2008 Bottle thanks to Drewbeerme. Hazy dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is all smoke with some foriegn meat of unknown origin. Flavor is a lot of burned wood and smoked meats but there is a good amount of sweet dark malt that comes through as well. Medium body and a good amount of carbonation. A nice smokey beer that leaves a lingering smoke in the mouth several glasses of water afterwords. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 1, 2008 12oz bottle thanks to drewbeerme for sharing this one. Pours brown with a beige head. Nose of ham roasted over a campfire made of burning hickory. Lots of the campfire, hickory, peat, and charred malts in the flavor. I’d like the smoke to come off a little stronger and knock me out like the great smoked beers do. However this is a fine smoked beer, I’m glad to have had a chance to try. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle shared at DLD 08. Pours dark brown with a soapy beige colored head. Aroma is peat malt, smoke, roast. Flavor is peat, campfire, roasted coffee, sweet malts. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished sweet and smokey. Great smoked beer. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma is smoked malt, hickory smoked bacon, and a certain roastiness of coffee.
