| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 9, 2008 Poured pitch black with slight ruby hints when held up to the light. There was absolutely no head or lacing on this one. Whoa, there is a serious aroma on this sucker, with the huge hickory smoked summer sausage smell. Some sweet malts, coffee, and chocolate, but it’s really all about the smoke. Taste is a more subtle smoked malt flavor with a hint of the smoked hickory. There is also some more prevalent sweetness in the taste with malts and dark fruit along with heavier coffee and chocolate hints. Mouthfeel is medium with no carbonation and coats the mouth thoroughly.
This is one of the more interesting beers I have had in a while and I really enjoyed it. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a moderate sized light brown head. Smells smokey and roasty malty. Tastes dark and roasty malty followed by lots of smoke and then a little bit of smoked beef. The flavor starts good but the smoked meat flavor puts me off a little. Medium body, slightly dry, somewhat subdued carbonation. hopscotch (5474), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2008 Bottle... Very dark brown ale (practically black) with a small, khaki head. Smells like the charred insides of a whiskey barrel... an intoxicating blend of hickory, mesquite, beechwood and peat smokes. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. Fairly well-balanced, although it does lean just a hair on the bitter side. Smoke, unsweetened cocoa and espresso. A touch oxidized. Finishes smoky, meaty and moderately bitter. Cheers to glouglouburp for shipping this brew down from the neighborhood to our north! Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2008 Bottle shared by mreusch. Pours deep brown with a creamy, beige head and ruby highlights. The nose is sweet, peaty malt with the addition of campfire smokiness. Light to medium-bodied, oily slick and flat with a woody dry finish. The flavor is a sweet, peaty, woody smokiness with a dry finish. No smoked meat notes in this one; not on the nose; not in the flavor. It was quite enjoyable sipping this one on a cool Spring night sitting in front of a patio fire. I can see this beer pairing well with a lot of different foods. Thanks for sharing it with me, Matt. mreusch (725), Olathe, Kansas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2008 341ml bottle, with another thanks to Glouglouburp! Pours a cola brown with a one finger tan head, minimal lacing. Aroma is smoke, burnt peat, and molasses. Flavor brings out more smoke, peat and lightly burnt malts with some gentle sweetness. Not having explored the smoked style much, this is an enjoyable example, and good stuff, especially sitting next to a fire on a cool evening. Thanks again Dany! unclemattie (2410), Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Bottled, thanks to glouglouburp for sending this extra in a massive trade in early April. Black center with deep maroon edges. Minimal head with just a few bubbles. Strong aroma of smoke and charcoal with sweet molasses. Flavor is a massive roast bomb that tastes like a BBQ smokehouse. Pretty thin around the edges with a bittered coffee finish.
