Roasted malt and a very well balanced smokey note in the aroma - nice! Very smokey flavor, taste like an old chimney. Very full and a bit too smokey for my liking, the flavor doesn’t fully live up to the very nice aroma. Glouglouburp (2822), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

It’s well liked by the respectable beer lovers but it doesn’t do it to me. Every time I drink one I come back to this site and remove a 0.1 to the score. I need to stop drinking it before I end up rating below a bud light and lose all credibility. Classified as a Smoked on ratebeer but this is more a porter with a smoked twist than a real Smoked. This is a tasty, heavy and filling beer. Black body with a thick moka-coffee head that quickly turns into a ring. Thick creamy body, bitter chocolate, some smoked malt and coffee. One of the rare stout/porter that I prefer very cold. I find the Calumet becomes vinous and way too siropy when it warms up. Ok the first few sips but it grosses me out quickly. | 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 1, 2006 A pitch dark beer, black like the caves of hell, no light can pass throught it. A nice beige caramel head, quite foamy that appears and leave herself slowly dissapear from the glass,
Smell of caramel, chocolate, roasted coffee and smoked grass are very present in the smell of that beer!
The taste of that beer is unique, coffee like a porter, followed by chocolate flavours that comes with a finish of smoked grass reminding me of some scottish whisky.
A superb beer. anders37 (4636), Malmö, Sweden

Burned, lightly smoked aromas. Fairly full body with lots of burned malt and distinct, baconish, smoked accents. Dry, ashy finish. 270106 MrManning (1647), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Turg, thanks Francois! Dark brown, almost opaque liquid is sitting under a thin halo of mocha foam. Roasty aromas at the forefront, with chocolate smokeyness coming in second place. Very much roasted malt in the flavour profile, chocolate, and sweet malts. Not too smokey as far as flavour is concerned. Perhaps too fizzy in the mouth, but a solid brew. Thanks Turg!
