鶕 ml bottle: Obtained in trades with radiomgb and tiggmtl, thanks Jeff and Stephen!) 2004 bottling. Whew, quite the rush of carbonation when I twisted off the cap, and a few bubbles started spilling out of the bottle. Very roasty and ashy, lots of chocolate, very strongly yeasty, quite spicy and peppery, but not very sweet, slightly tart actually. Tastes like a yeasty dry stout. Smoke isn’t all that prominent, mostly coming out toward the finish, and as the beer warms up. Also as the beer warms, it seems to be picking up some modest but interesting tart cherry notes as well. Lots of roast, yeast, and pepper in the nose. Full bodied, tart and bitter enough to keep the palate lively, and the excessive carbonation causes a pretty expansive, cheek-puffing mouthfeel. Very dark brown in color through the center of the glass with dark ruddiness at the edges. Tall, dark tan head maintains a quarter inch layer for most of the session, but leaves no lacing on the glass. Tasty and enjoyable, but not fully enthralling, mostly because I’m not a fan of beers with as much yeastiness as this beer shows. Definitely a beer that seems to improve as it warms up, though.

This beer has a very nice personality. Deep tobacco/thin bacon smoke (being an ex smoker, I can tell!) hickory + a touch of wood aroma. Smoked malt is definitely present to the nose Nice tan head that has a good retention. The taste is just like the aroma: smokey. I really like the body of this beer. Full lbody, creamy, soft carbonation.

Bottle: It looks good…it smells good…..it tastes good….and it feels good. I am trying to be as objective as I can, but I admit that my opinions are a bit biased because I love dark strong beers. Nonetheless simply a gorgeous beer.

thanks to richlikebeer for the bottle. dark brown with ruby edges. coffee and chocolate aroma and flavors, but an off mediciney flavor defines the backbone of this one. I could just never quite overcome that off flavor. it is trying to be a good porter, just not 100% there.

Thanks to MDS for this one. Chocolate, soy, fish, ink and tar. The nose smells *black* Body is pure black topped by a thin tannish head. Flavor of burnt chocolate, iodine/soy, grape, soda, sweetish milked coffee. Some cherry and fishiness. Very creamy, smoothly carbonated.

Dep black body with a small tan head. Smoky malty aroma with bacon note. Smoky malty flavor, with hints of some coffee and liquorice. Thanx Mads for sharing this special beer.
