3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Copper-red hue is crowned by a great fully lasting 2-inch off-white foam, sticking to the glass and supported by ample carbonation. Very green nature, the hops are very woody, leafy, citrusy. Martin got the grapefruit’s subtlety right, this is all cascade and it would not have been my first guess at the hops used. It does have a good malt backbone though, smooth, earthy and honey reminiscent. Efficient carbonation level fits the medium body aptly. Bitter finish, well balanced. A globally well made beer devoid of flaws and typical of bièropholie’s high standards.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bouteille 341ml.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2011 Originally rated December 2005. Second beer of my IPA night. Purchased at Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Pours an amber colour with a medium head that leaves good lace. The nose is caramel, nut and hop. Medium bodied mouthfeel. The taste is a mix of the caramel malt and the hop. Nice bitterness throughout that is above average. Very close to the Bièropholie IPA, except no haziness and slightly less hop in the taste.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep ruby tinted copper coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of strong caramel, malt, apples, toffee and oh yeah - hops, but not much though! Medium-bodied; Assertive malt and caramel up front with a lot of alcohol noticeable and a dose of hops, although those are not the dominant flavour. Aftertaste shows some of the floral and piney hops that are noticeable at the end, but a lot of caramel still comes out. Overall, a good beer, but I was expecting perhaps a bit more hops. Looking at some of the other ratings, it makes sense - since this appears to be ~2 years old, thus the hops have really died down. I sampled the 66 IBU bottle with a different label than the one shown in the picture here. I sampled this 341 mL bottle purchased at Depanneur Peluso (Bonisoir) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 09-April-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 13-June-2009.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
341 mL bottle. (66 IBU version, and although the hops are perhaps a little faded, this beer doesn’t seem to be a year and a half past its best before date). Translucent brown with a nice beige head. The hops are there in the aroma, although not overwhelmingly so. There is some caramel in there as well. The flavour is surprisingly well balanced. (Perhaps it wasn’t, when fresh??) The hops hit about half-way through, and the grapefruit flavour segues nicely into a pleasantly bitter finish. The hops are balanced by a nutty-caramel backbone. Again, nothing overwhelming. Carbonation is medium to low, perhaps a by-product of age, but suits this beer nicely. Decent body for the style. Another solid offering by an excellent brewer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Bonisoir. Pours a hazy deep ruby brown with a medium thick light tan head. Some citrus hops, caramel, and toasted grain on the nose. Medium bodied, sweet, and with an odd vanilla like ester sort of thing going on. Decent bitter finish, but overall, not really all that impressive. Second IPA that I’ve had from Bieropholie, and neither have been great. This one at least is drinkable.
Addendum. Found that this is actually a 2 year old bottle (it’s the 66 IBU version), so that may explain some of the let downs here.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
20080402 12oz bottle that’s been in my fridge so long I have no idea where it came from. 66 IBU version and I wouldn’t rate it seeing now how old it is, but it’s pretty good so why not? Ruddy red with no head save a ring of tan foam. Aroma is herbal and earthy with notes of pine, black pepper, and rye bread dough. Body is spritzy, mild, and clean with a quick bitter finish. Flavor is also herby with grass/hay notes and some green tea and christmas tree. Overall, it’s pleasant and must have been quite nice a couple years ago. I’m glad this was in my regular fridge which is quite cold and likely preserved the beer well.

Bottle thanks to Glouglouburp!
66 IBU. Hazy amber-orange with a small yellow head. Nose has berries and citrus, some faint hop bitterness with warmth... very fruit and sweet. Flavor is off, cleaning products go with the hop bitterness and some minor caramel malt. It was best by Dec 07, so maybe it’s a little past its peak now.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
"Gotta admit that I’m a little bit confused; sometimes it seems to me that" a production date should be somewhere on any bottle of beer that you buy. The bottle of this however great beer had a greyish label on it, with a 66 IBU mention on the upper-left corner. Was it really then, as it’s said here, best before december 2007? It didn’t seem so to me, although it had a pretty thick texture for an IPA. A pretty good beer, indeed amazingly and deliciously bitter but not everything is Cascade hop bitterness as the warmth of this hazy beer brings subtleties of caramel and some fruits, lemon and grapefruit. 2.89$ at Peluso is quite expensive but I’ll surely buy some more someday... Great, very great quality of product.

341ml bottle. Poured amber, small but nice looking white lacing head. Sweet aroma. fruity and hoppy. Hints of alcohol also. Taste is not as sweet as the aroma. Fairly bitter. Gradually getting hints of grapefruit like some said. Overall interesting beer but not really to my liking. Rating #27
