It pours a perfect black with a dark brown head that stays for a while. It’s got a bit of toast and high percentage cocao dark chocolate in the aroma, with that sharpness that the high quality chocolate possesses. There’s a bit of char and ash in the back of the flavor, but this is an excellent imperial stout. daalamar (403), bardstown, Kentucky, USA

Black color with a medium tan head. aroma of coffee and chocolate. Solid roasty flavor hits right off the start with more coffee and loads of chocolate on the end finishing with an acidic twang. Heavy mouthfeel but the finish cleans things off nicely. Very nice Beer. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Crazy amount of dark chocolate chips in the nose, black as night and a slick pour. Diminishing but impressive foamy brown head. The chocolate notes were huge, and otherwise I noted coffee, port and some fusel alcohol. I wasn’t as impressed with the flavour, for there was a roasted malt sourness that was far too prevalent. Everything else was well done. Props to my man Rob for making the trek from Q-bek. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2006 341 ml bottle. Pitch black with a chocolatey brown average head. Bold sweet roasted licorice aromas. Dark chocolate and raisins. Thick mouthfeel. Burnt dry malts. Not really as sweet as the aromas hinted at, but is instead surprisingly dry. Dry roasted pulvery texture. Finish is drying with a little hop bitterness. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA

It’s been a super crappy week between the weather and negative attitudes of other people...time for an imperial stout in July. This one pours a deep black with this awesome mocha colored fluffy head that fades nice and slow. The aroma is full of roasted coffee beans, toasted malt, chocolate, and a hint of caramel and smoke. The flavor has a nice bitey black coffee bitterness supported with with a nice semi-sweet chocolate malt backbone...some smoke, molasses, and cherry come into play as well. A bit oily and a bit thin over the tounge, which I was hoping for a bit more heft...though this heft seems to appear torwards the back of the tounge all the way through to the bittersweet and malty finish. All in all, it was pretty much just what I was in the mood for, a seriously solid imperial stout that’s not overtly thick or sweet. GregClow (2496), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Black, oily pour with a small brown head - beautiful! Aroma of burnt malt & caramel, dark chocolate, fresh roasted coffee beans & nuts, and a hint of smoke. Flavour follows the aroma closely, with a long, bitter cocoa finish. The mouthfeel is lighter than expected, but otherwise, this is a fantastic beer. droops (2), montreal, Quebec, Canada does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 27, 2006 One of my favorite beer from bieropholie , great aroma of chocolate caramel . Pours a pitch black color with a nice tan head that leaves some lacing in my pint glass.Aroma is in some ways very similar to their IPA, caramelly, oily, very perfumey. Taste is of roasted malts, coffee, a touch of acid, very intense, bitterchocolate, mouthfeel is medium to thick, silky, really deep and multidimentional, I wish I had more from this brewery available!!
