341 ml bottle from a trade with fred82, shared with jessem. 2006 vintage. pours black with a tan head. sour aroma of soy and decaying black malt. the flavour shows more life with coffee and chocolate present but this one is on the way downhill. glad i got to try this brew but this bottle didnt hold up as well as i would have hoped.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2011 Bottle shared with matt7215, his bottle, thanks Matt. I recieved this beer in two successive trades last year and both bottles broke, so it’s been a long journey for me to try this one. Pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is strong on the soy sauce (which is something I’m never crazy about), with some mild chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour hits right away with the soy sauce, followed by some okay malts and then rounded out with some dry bitterness. It all has a bit of sour tinge to it though, which I doubt is intentional. Very thin-bodied for an Imperial Stout. Over-all not a bad beer but fell pretty short of my expectations, especially since this beer eluded me for so long. Didn’t expect my over-all to turn out so low but that’s just how the honest numbers added up.

341ml bottle from Rahman. poured into snifter. everytime i open one of these beers, it explodes with carbonation. pours a pitch black with a huge moka head. aroma is roasted malts and dark chocolate, taste is more or less the same. pretty low ABV for its style, but satisfies nonetheless. not a bad beer by any means, but i’m glad it’s now Simple Malt.

Remarkable coffee taste. It’s fairly strong and it’s obvious - there’s a hint of sweet alcohol towards the end. Good one!

12 oz. bottle - not sure on the vintage; pours oily thin and black with faint dark brown head along the edges; chocolate, alcohol, dank fruit and husky grains; texture is thin and mostly flat; fresh coffee flavors and dry, brown sugar; decent overall, though less than impressed

With great thanks to Blankboy a nice 2005B bottle. Jet black body with a chocolate mousse head. Beautiful. Aroma: Delicious fudge with chocolate, malt, creamy, slight alcohol, nutty and a smashing maltiness too. Flavour: Wow, bitter nuts, hops, malt, a lot of dryness and a bitter cream finish. Lovely.

Perhaps 2007 Vintage, Showing 7.9% abv:
As soon as opening the bottle, a ton of carbonation comes out - fills the glass with head. Deep pitch black coloured body with a dense large brown coloured head. Aroma of grapes, yeast, bread, chocolate, cherries and a bit of a lactic character. Full-bodied; Assertive fake sugar flavour up front with a cherry and grape sweetness, fading to a creamy and almost milky taste. Aftertaste shows some alcohol, a ton of yeast and a lot of roasty flavours - but the coffee and chocolate comes out the most. Overall, a good and strong imperial stout - but perhaps a bit too sweet and yeastie for me. I sampled this 341 mL bottle purchased from Depanneur Peluso (Bonisoir) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 09-April-2009, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 05-September-2009.

Thanks again Dany, i’ve been really happy with all these Canadian biers. pours black with a tiny tan had that dissaptes quickly. leaves a tan ring around the edge of the glass and some galaxy looking designs on top of the beer. nice. aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, black licorice, molasses fo sho. flavor is bitter sweet chocolate and coffee concation. nice body. coats the mouth. dry finish or maybe i’m just a little high. Legit city

341 ml bottle, on sale at Marche Jovi, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Can’t be sure, but suspect this is from 2006.

App.: Deep brown-black and a decent mocha head. Aroma: Lots of delicious black licorice and molasses, some dark chocolate and coconut/vanilla, light tang, milk chocolate, very rich and inviting. Palate: Medium+ body, moderately soft effervescence. Flav.: Unfortunately, this must be past its prime, there is a little of the nose, but lots of tangy organic acids have taken over, still a bit of molasses and licorice, but the more inviting chocolate and vanilla notes are gone; dry with a good deal of unpleasant sourness and a touch bitterness.

I certainly have to get some fresh product.
