3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 16, 2004
Light brown to amber color. Small, but dense head of light beige bubbles. Rich earthy caramel surrounded by lightly citrus hops aromas. There are times the nose really enjoys this one and then at times it catches a waft of flesh and over ripe fruit (old refrigerator nose) - Interesting. Description says it all, after the first quaff, I could sit and wait a considerable amount of time before imbibing anew. Lingers of mocha, light roasted malt, raspberries, and almonds. I like it. Flavors start with a touch of sourdough and pale malt. Middle is somewhat vacant. Finish is dryer despite the description. I’m sure they mean "dry" as in devoid of flavor. A wonderful moniker as started by the macros. Another brew ala Rastacouere that takes me back to the roots of brewing. You can tell the brews started with a solid malt bill and added extra hops to balance. It’s nice to have some more traditional ales. After a trip to the PNW, where everything is an IPA that is actually an APA or strong american ale, this is quite a nice change of pace.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 12, 2004
Nice mahogany with a light head and spotty lacing. Hop aroma. Bitter, floral and citrus included. Nice malts, some pepepr. Flavors of bitter hops balanced with sweet malts. Lemons, some caramel. Full body and a spicy palate. Nicely balanced.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BückDich (5468) - McCall, Idaho, USA - JUL 12, 2004
Amber gold color with a nice creamy/stucky head & moderate lacing. The aroma is toasty with lots of hops, musky herbal. The flavor is lemony citrus with sweet malts & a bit of caramelized malt sweetness. Finishes balanced with the toasty hops very bright & equal.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jerc (5444) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 7, 2004
Dark orangey amber body with a nice white head that is fairly quick to depart. Hops and malt in the aroma, not ton of citrusy notes but some. Flavour is pleasantly hoppy with a big whoppingly malty background. It could actually use some more hops in it with such a solid base of malt. Hints of caramel in the malt. Nice beer.

Kind of dark for an IPA, bordering between amber and brown, creamy light tan head. The malts have more of a caramel prescence to them, slightly sweet. Of course, a nice dose of hops giving you a pretty dry mouthfeel. Some toasty notes as well. Medium bodied. An interesting IPA, very good. Thanks NorthYorkSammy.

Nice amber color, thin white head and medium carbonation. Nice aroma of hops and caramel malt. Good hops flavor and bitterness but it is then balanced by a nice caramel, malty sweetness. Medium body, dry mouthfeel. The strenght of this beer resides in it balance. Very good.

Thanks Stephen (Tiggmtl) for this one. I purposely let this age for a few months to see where it would end up and boy am I glad I did. This became a beautiful mix of sweet malt and bitter hops. Taste has some roasted flavors as well as light caramel. Very dry, very good.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2005 2003 bottle (Batch #1) thanks to Jeff (radiomgb). Pours a very coppery/amber color, crystal clear (filtered), quite shiny with a small white head. Aroma of light yeast, light red berries, and some dry, yet not overly bitter, hops. Flavor is a mix of lightly floral hops, some yeast, dough, and more light fruits. Toasted malt in here as well, somewhat astringent. Lightly grainy/chewy texture, good amount of wateriness. Strange one here, but at least it’s unique. Not "dry" in that it is super-hopped, but also no real sweetness from any significant caramel malting. Delicate, if somewhat thin of flavor. Clean, short finish. 6/4/7/3/13 2005 bottle Different recipe it seems. A much darker colored beer, deep amber-auburn with a big yellow head, well retained. Aroma of mounds of diacetyl at first, and the flavor is full of it too. Tons of thick toffee, butterscotch, cream and only light bitterness on the finish. Medium-full body does not disappoint and after giving this beer time to breath and warm, the diacetyl seems to vanish, leaving just a full flavor of caramel and honey, with light toasted malt. Low carbonation. Far, far better than the overly dry, astringent, perfumy rendition that they used to make, IMHO. 7/5/8/4/15
