3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Eructoblaster (2122) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 12, 2005
Nice hazy amber body topped with a thick and lasting off-white foamy head. Delightful hoppy aroma with herbal and spicy hints. Very well balanced hoppy (Golding) taste with a long and strongly bitter finish. As fot the other beers from Bièropholie, that one stands far above the average. As the commercial description says, this is for people who really loves beer; not for insipid corn-soda lovers.

Although this is not the strongest IPA I have taken, I consider it a good "built by the book" IPA. The beer is fruity, moderate carbonation which poured a small lasting head. Hops are felt through the fruitness. Good product.

Strong malt base married to some quite bitter hops, vegetable style (spinach?) and grapefruity. Darker than many IPAs - lovely in fact. I like the stark bitterness; the malt here is to make the whole deal sturdy, very little sweetness, some sourdough bread action.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - JUN 30, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 7, 2011 Originally rated December 2005. Purchased at the Dépanneur de la Rive in Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Pours a hazy caramel-amber colour with a tanned creamy head. Retention is quite long and lacing all around glass is great. The aromas are of caramel and molasse with hop in the background. The taste starts bitter, but gets more bitter in the finish to come back down to the starting point in the aftertaste. Coffee and notes of nuts lingers also in the aftertaste. Nice and smooth. Also in the flavours is burnt wood, oranges and butterscotch. A very nice complex brew.

Got to be a lot of Cascade in this one. Copper color, moderate head. Aroma of dried grass clipping and rotting leaves. Very balanced, with a sweet malty presents. Balanced finish, I like this beer. Thanks Rastacouere!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 matta (1140) - Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2004
This beer was received in my most recent trade with the always generous rater Rastacouere, Thanks again Buddy!!
Wow! Pours a robust mahogany body and a fluffy creamy head. The nose has a surprisingly pronounced grapefruit and caramel fragrance….. more of the typical West Coast IPA…. And I was expecting more of an English style. The flavor has nice woody notes of spruce, but beneath that, there is more of a hard wood Oak likeness. Somewhat of a musty grapefruit… some long notes of guava sit atop the more subdued suggestions of plums and orange zests.
Very nice creamy palate, the finish is puckering and DRY! Leaves behind a mouth full of caramelized grapefruit…… A shockingly delightful IPA!!
And YES, contrary to the "Commercial Description," 5 seconds after you take a sip... the DRYNESS hits!

Pour is deep amber with a nice wispy tan head...smell is sweet with malts, caramel, bread, some citrus...taste is amazing because the difference a single hop can make...looks identical to their Cascade, but tastes and smell totally different...taste is malty sweet up front with a nice well balanced bitterness at the back...just enough to clean up the sweetness...clean dry finish...

Apparently the #2 version of one similar as IPA#2 is Bièropholie’s second beer called simply "IPA". You can tell which one you have by the placement of "IPA" on the label: top left is IPA#1, top right is IPA#2: Dark coppery clouded color with a medium ivory cap of sifting froth. Fades to keep a good skim and collar as it distributes a great sheeting lace in thinly placed snow shelves.
Aroma is thick and malty with a big caramel/toffee scooping with a leafy, dry wood hop topping. Very clean with a smidgeon of deep woodsy alcoholic vapor.
Taste is a bit understated, not much hop bite or profile beyond a weakened dry woodish sense flaoting around the edges of a dulled caramel/toffee malting that tends to make up the overall sensibility of its character from front to back. Clean tasting, but unfulfilling in the fashion of any IPA. Dryish finish of wood and fresh hop cone leafyness calmly sets a light dash across the palate with a dusting of chocolate and cardboard.
Feel is a little flattened, no real snap or bitterness, nor carbonation or body. Clean, creamy, but weakened mediumish body, perhaps from age as the bottle has no freshness dates?
Glides down fairly well with its clean, softly creamyness found from its big malt base evident from the waft of caramel on the nose and overall taste. The hops try to push forward but never quite make it. It conjures up memories of fresh west coast IPA’s by Stone but without the full hop onslaught or freshness. Perhaps an extremely fresh tapping or bottling could produce a better product then what transpired through the trade this was acquired in. Thanx Sammy!

Deep amber, typical flowery cascade nose. IPAs are not favorites of mine, but this one sure didn't forget to rely on a deep malt profile (chewy sweet pine gum) to balance the big grapefruity piney hop profile and at the same time keeping it from being sour. Easily the hoppiest beer in Quebec at this point, medium-bodied and not too bitter. Bièropholie: A nice project is born...
