COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Un genre d’hybride bière/tawny/cognac... Des fruits, cerises, dattes, caramel et tout le pataclan sur une finale toute chaude d’alcool. Une gaterie à partager avec l’être cher.

For me the brewer, it’s not made to be an American Strong Ale or something else. It’s made to be a kind of barley based port-style with very little carbonation, just enought to protect it against oxydation.

4th Rating from 3rd Annual Woodshop tasting in Temple City, CA. 3/1/08. One hell of a day put on by Cquiroga, thanks for a killer day Chris. Also spent the day there with bikesanbeer, my girlfriend Cyn, wetherel, JohnC, DenverLogan, dirty_martini, jasparg, DrBil, IPAFiend, awaisanen and many others, this was one crazy day. Botlte brought by wetherel, thanks John. Porus brown and bubbly. Nose is severe with notes of psychotic paint lacker. Taste is sweet and very big clearly a great digestif beer. very smooth and large. Wow great beer.

In short: Decadent and very fruity beer. Grapes, port-wine and all. A great digestive beer. Underrated.
How: Bottle 341ml, vintage 2+ years old
The look: Dark burgundy body with a little beige ring of foam
In long: Nose is vinous, port wine and candies. Taste has A LOT of fruits. Grapes was the only specific fruit coming out. Overall the beer is intensely fruity but without any specific fruits coming (except aforementioned grapes). Alcohol presence can be felt but less than expected for a 12+% beer. Next to the fruits I found barley candies, black and red liquorice. Although sticky and syrupy the beer didn’t feel that sweet thanks to the emphasis on the fruity fla vours. A little port wine here and there. Almost ABT-ish at times. The light oxidation (2+ years old bottle) is not bothersome and even lightens up the beer. I wasn’t a huge fan of the beer when it came out some 2+ years ago (one and only brewed). Since then I have had a bottle every 6 months or so and I think the beer peaked about 6 mont hs ago. Although on its decay I much prefer it now than the first bottle I drank. Less roasted and alcoholised than very young it has developed complex vinous fruity flavours. I’m almost tempted to say easy to drink. This is a beer that the extreme-beer fan can appreciate, that the ABT lover can relate to, that a digestive beer drinker will enjoy and that my cousin Louis can spell correctly.

341ml bottle. pours dark ruby with very thin white head around the rim. nose is oxidized, lots of port wine and plum notes. flavors are pretty much the same with lots of maple syrupy and hints of cherries and toffee. i think this is past its prime, still drinkable, but so oxidized i dont have a good idea what this beer ever was. alcohol is well hidden and just warms a bit. very low carbonation but not flat. the description of from the brewery is interesting, it is a barley based port drink. tasty and impossible to classify. don’t think ASA when drinking this.

341 mL bottle received via trade with Glouglouburp. Pours clear brown with a spare, off-white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), light hops (flowers), average yeast (earth, leaves) with notes of light alcohol and dates. Full bodied, creamy and alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, heavy sweetness and acidity, moderate bitterness.

Pours a rich, dark brown with not much in the way of a head. Strong caramel aroma with notes of alcohol. Tastes very sweet, slightly astringent with caramel and lightly kilned malt. Body was unremarkable, but typical for a barleywine, which was what I took this beer for at the time. Yum - I think I was the only person at the tasting that liked this one. Many thanks to G for the sample!

12 oz bottle from Hogtown Harry, thanks man! Obtained and consumed in summer 2006. Pours a slight hazed mahogany color with a tiny beigey head. Sweet and somewhat mediciney smelling (in a good way), orange liquer, cherry, dark fruits, definite alcohol presence and a bit of candy sugar. Flavor sweet and very rich with over ripe dark fruits, citrus, prominent alcohol warming all the way to the gullet. Thick full body and gentle carbonation.

Very deep mahogany in colour, thin off-white coloured head, some light patchy lacing. The aroma is lightly alcoholic, lots of toffee sweetness, sourdough bread, dark fruits, vanilla, some cherries. The flavour is moderately sweet, some caramel malts, figs, some alcohol but not overpowering, very rich. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/large body, medium carbonation. Finishes very long, quite sweet, sugary, late alcohol. Another excellent beer from Bièropholie, probably the best brewery in Quebec not named Dieu du Ciel.

341ml bottle obtained in a trade with <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank>Rastacouere, thanks David.
Opened on September 13, 2007.
No date.

Bottle. Pours a dark copper-brown with a small white ring of head. The aroma is cheesy with toasted toffee, sugar, and rye bread notes. This stuff is really potent - alcohol burns right from the getgo. Plenty of maltiness can be found beneath the alcohol front: some caramel, raisins, and toast flavours. I think this had been sitting around for well over a year and it’s still pretty rough.
