COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Un genre d’hybride bière/tawny/cognac... Des fruits, cerises, dattes, caramel et tout le pataclan sur une finale toute chaude d’alcool. Une gaterie à partager avec l’être cher.

For me the brewer, it’s not made to be an American Strong Ale or something else. It’s made to be a kind of barley based port-style with very little carbonation, just enought to protect it against oxydation.

Bottle shared with tupalev, jerc, blankboy & HogTownHarry - courtesy of blankboy. Mahogany colour with a wispy head. Aroma is sweet & boozy, with lots of dark sugar & wood & some cherry cough drops. Flavour of port, caramel, wood & alcohol warmth in the finish. Quite nice.

Golden-brown colour. Toffee, alcohol and crackerlike aromas. Sweet, brown sugar flavour with light molasses. Simple but tasty, and surprisingly not a lot of booziness.

Deep brown-orange beer with a thin white head. Big dark malty aroma, orange peel, toffee, chewy light molasses. Very aromatic, chewy toffeeish malts, brown sugar. Flavour is quite sweet, malt and cherry fruit. Well-hopped with herbal UK-style hops, orange peel flavour. Slightly hot and could probably use a bit of age. Still a tasty barleywine.

Bottled provided by Martin and served in my Duval snifter: Pours a ruddy mahogany with a small fading head which left a ring a foam and minimal lace, oily and thick however.
The nose detects a huge molasses and vanilla overtone with additional fleshy ripen fruits, sherry, and even some scotch characteristics.

The taste starts wickedly sweet with lots of sugary notes overtaking the palate and leaving little room for other sublime notes to shine. I got some pepper, spicy hops, and orange peel toward the midesection. Finished off with a alcoholic burn and a salty bite.
The feel is heavy and lush, but a harsh alcoholic bite kept me from really enjoying this beer.

If you told me Samuel Adams made this beer, I would have likely agreed. Over-the-top in almost all aspects, but that said, it seems ready for the cellar and a chance to age out. (There is little American about this beer, more like a British barleywine). I guess La Porte is not a place with more generous rater.

Bourgogne foncé, pas de collet, arome de caramel et d’épice, goût fruité, caramelisé et chocolaté et une arrièr goût fort et chaleureux. Je ne sais pas pour le nom "S", mais je crois que ça veut dire Super.

Rating #800. 341 ml bottle courtesy turg. Dark mahogony colour with a quickly diminishing frothy off-white head. Rich toffee and dark chocolate aroma plus plum, raisin, cherry, and other fruit with oaky and acidic notes. Flavour shows port, citrus fruit, and more plum and raisin with a chocolaty and boozy finish. Also some acidity, almost like there’s some Flemish Sour in there somewhere. Full bodied, very warming but very drinkable for 12.5%. In Na Zdravi, i found a tribute to Orval. Here I find a salute to De Dolle. Many thanks turg for this gem for #800.

Bottle shared with GregClow, Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, and Jerc, Blankboy’s bottle. Sweet alcohol, almost sherry like aroma. Very formidable! A little bottle like though and even some molasses - maybe a tad too harsh too. Deep mahogany brown, no head, very still looking in the glass. Lovely alcohol taste, wonderfully balanced with immense sweetness. Some burning linger. A lovely sipper.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of me. Pours a clear dark reddish-brown with relatively no head. Very sweet aroma of caramel malt, fruit, sugar, wood and alcohol -- very pleasant. Really nice flavour, almost port-like, of sweet malt, some wood notes, fruit, hops and a boozy finish -- it’s definitely a sipper. This was a nice surprise, I really liked it!
