Commercial Description:
A "Vin d'orge" to be distinguished from American barley wines. Unique, but if linked to any other type of beers, it would be classic English barley wines.

Wine from barley sugar. One single variety of noble hop and one single variety of malt were used.

Pours clear, dark copper, with an off-white head that rose to an inch. The porous foam fell quickly leaving a few errant dots of lacework, and some crescent skimming on the surface. Akin to malt candy in the nose. Sweet malt with purple grape jam. Floral and lightly fusel-laden. Smelling quite fresh and young. The mouthfeel is sticky and lightly syrupy. Carbonation is light and keeps the beer clingy. The pallet is loaded with sweet, clean malt. Hopping is reserved for a smidge of bitterness, and fruitiness in the middle. Alcohol is apparent and warming, but no heat. Juicy malt continues throughout the finish, with some minerally crispness and lingering residuals. A showcase for high quality, fresh malt with some petal-like hopping. The excessive residuals cut down on the drinkability though.

Bravo!

Very sweet and jammy in the nose with some floral character and underlying marzipan. Lightly hazy golden-copper coloured body is topped by a low, off white head that recedes to a partial cover with some lacing. Sweet and fruity up front with notable but not overwhelming bitterness. Floral hop flavours and chewy cereal malt linger along with the bitterness i the aftertaste. Medium full body with decent, lightly prickly carbonation. Tulip glass. Just above cellar temperature. Bottle. Rahman. Jun-08.

2007 bottling. It certainly looks like a barley wine, orange-brown with little head. Smells like one too, with caramel, fruit and alcohol present. Flavour is big on fruit-- apples, apricots, peaches-- with a quick but noticeable alcohol kick. Finishes with the same fruit, plus some of the caramel from the aroma. Probably better fresh.
