COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Five different dark grains, molasses and freshly roasted African coffee beans went into this rich and decadent sweet-stout. This beer is unfiltered and matured in the bottle and will continue to improve for the next 2-3 years. After fermentation a portion of the beer was matured on medium-toast french oak providing subtle hints of vanilla and coconut.
Pour carefully to avoid disturbing the sediment.

Bottle. Black colour with a medium light brown head and a fair lacework. Rich aroma and taste of coffee, mollasses and vanilla. A bit thinner that expected. Lasting taste.

Sample from bottle at Bishops Arms Järntorget. Black pour with a beige head. Aroma of malt, oats, chocolate, molasses. Same aspects in flavour which is on the sweet side but balanced with coffee. Full bodied and low carbonation. A nice beer.

from Erzbierschof - dark black beer under a persistent beige foam; a robust coffeish aroma with notes of nuts, undefined spices and mocha; full-bodied and very tasty; quite dry and decently bitter; very long roasted coffeish aftertaste with notes of molasses, walnuts and some warming alcohol notes

(33 cl bottle from Toft Vin; BBD: November 1st 2013) Pours dark brown with medium, off-white head that recedes quickly leaving a thin film. Some lace. Nose is mostly molasses and bready with a hint of oxidation. Doesn’t improve much as it warms up. Flavour is syrup with notes of coffee and a hint of oak. Carbonation is flat, full bodied, oily texture with a sweet finish. Girlfriend says: "It tastes a bit of candy. It’s okay. It’s very strong though."

34cl bottle. Pours black, with an offwhite head. Smells sweet, with molasses, malt, and coffee -- slightly bitter, even in the nose. Tastes of a heavy sweetness, with a rounded semi-fruity follow-up that packs a medium bitterness with creamy vanilla-coffee flavor. Full bodied, thick oily texture, soft carbonation. Finishes semi-bitter but still sweet. Quite excellent.

CandleWorks (1) - SOUTH AFRICA - MAR 23, 2012 does not count
This beer may be brewed in South Africa but to list it as a South African beer is wrong. It’s not distributed locally. If a beer is not available for South Africans to drink, it is not a South African beer.

Black colored with little brown head. Roasted coffee aroma with thin vanilla, some chocolate and salt here as well. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also bit salty, still roastiness dominating. Aftertaste is still bit sweet, not too much though. Good one, well balanced.

Jet black colour with dark, creamy head. Aroma is smokey and even a bit salty/savoury. Rich, silky oily texture. Flavour is pleasantly bitter roasted malts. Aftertaste is sweetened coffee.

340ml bottle. Opaque black with small ochre-beige creamy lacing head. Dark malt, sweet and sourish coffee aroma, slightly alcoholic. Taste has typical sweet stout notes, but also a dry note in the finish. Not too much coffee, also a nuttily note. Good.

Sweet stouts have never been my thing, but I will give some credit to the brewery for having the foresight to temper its molasses sweetness with the coffee flavor. Great appearance, tons of yeast sediment. Coffee, and bit of soap finish, tan head.
