Jun 23, 2009 On tap at Sam Choys. Clear copper with an off white head. Sweet nose, malt syrup-like, somewhat herbal. Rather sweet flavor, malty and caramelly, a bit spicy. Finishes with a toasty biscuit. Good lace. OK.

Sep 26, 2008 Tap. Just the barest hint of malt - not much aroma. Cola brown color with moderate head. Caramel malt flavor. Slightly spicy finish. High carbonation. Very nice beer - not a typical APA.

Apr 14, 2008 Draft at Holokai Grill. Amber body, malty nose, medium off-white head. Lots of diacetyl, malty, some spicy hops. Nothing special here.

2008 Great Hawaii Beer Run
Aroma Amber malts with a hint of spice, molasses and chocolate.
Appearance Dark amber in color, nice head and clear.
Flavor A deep amber malt flavor with some great molasses and spices also lingering n the flavor. Very light in the hops.
Palate Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall This was a great beer. Had flavor full of body and goes well with the crab we just ate.

Nov 3, 2007 On tap at Sam Choys in Honolulu, HI. Poured a deeper orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, roast, and light citrus. Tastes of caramel, roast, citrus, and nutty. Light lacing left on the glass. I was getting some butteriness in both the aromas and tastes.

May 29, 2007 Draft at Yardhouse in Waikiki. Some hoppy aromas, but mostly bready yeast and malts. Flavor was a step up with some hops and decent malts to back it up. Just OK

Jan 17, 2005 Draft: Poured a cloudy reddish amber with a medium cream colored head. Slightly meaty aroma. Earthy hop flavor. Well carbonated and light bitterness in the finish. Well balanced. Good.

Mar 28, 2004 This beer looked great in its tall glass before me. As it began to sweat I knew it wanted me. When I partook it in my mouth I felt it caress my palate, please my tongue, mouth-filling and satisfying, making my beer-sampling of the nite complete, whole, one. Perhaps I'm exaggerating, but I did enjoy this ale, although I did prefer Big Aloha's Hefe-Weizen instead. This was one of the better local brews I tried in Hawai'i.
