Amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Caramel malt with a bit of citrus aroma. Caramel malt with a light earthy bitter finish. A tad thin and watery.

Pours a really nice dark mahogany color. Moderate head, but no lacing. Aroma is carmel and nuts. Taste is the same with a dry finish. Reminds me of a nut brown ale. This beer would improve greatly if it wasn’t so watery.

Pawola22 (2202) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2011
On tap at the brewpub (Sam Choy’s). Pours a clear, amber colored body with a finger-width, dense and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice, sticky lacing throughout. Aroma is caramel, sour dark fruits, and a faint bread. Flavor is thin caramel, sour fruits, and some earth. Finishes dry with a light, earthy bitterness that leaves a medium length aftertaste. Light body and fairly fizzy carbonation. Overall, a pretty bland beer. It looks pretty solid, but aside from that the only going for it is the dry, somewhat bitter finish. Not very good.

Characterized by an amber body with a decent head. Light malt aroma and simple caramel notes and hopping that beckons one to recall an E.S.B. Somewhat thin and with mild bitterness. Forgettable.

On tap at Sam Choy’s. Clear copper with an off white head. Sweet nose, malt syrup-like, somewhat herbal. Rather sweet flavor, malty and caramelly, a bit spicy. Finishes with a toasty biscuit. Good lace. OK.

Tap. Just the barest hint of malt - not much aroma. Cola brown color with moderate head. Caramel malt flavor. Slightly spicy finish. High carbonation. Very nice beer - not a typical APA.

Draft at Holokai Grill. Amber body, malty nose, medium off-white head. Lots of diacetyl, malty, some spicy hops. Nothing special here.

Taster - Big Aloha Brewery (Sam Choys) - Honolulu, Hawaii
2008 – Great Hawaii Beer Run
Aroma – Amber malts with a hint of spice, molasses and chocolate.
Appearance – Dark amber in color, nice head and clear.
Flavor – A deep amber malt flavor with some great molasses and spices also lingering n the flavor. Very light in the hops.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, good texture with a nice dry finish.
Overall – This was a great beer. Had flavor full of body and goes well with the crab we just ate.

On tap at Sam Choys in Honolulu, HI. Poured a deeper orange color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, roast, and light citrus. Tastes of caramel, roast, citrus, and nutty. Light lacing left on the glass. I was getting some butteriness in both the aromas and tastes.

Draft at Yardhouse in Waikiki. Some hoppy aromas, but mostly bready yeast and malts. Flavor was a step up with some hops and decent malts to back it up. Just OK
