Brewed with local Kiawe honey, this dark rich ale has an initial full-bodied sweetness that leads to a lingering roasty, cappuccino-like finish.

On tap at Sam Choy’s. Clear dark brown with a tan head. Light nutty nose. Decent choco-nut flavor, but not much to get excited about.

Pours translucent black with red hue. Off white head. No lacing. Light aroma...chocolate. Taste is the best part of this beer. Roasted malts, sweet chocolate, sugar, dark chocolate and acidic aftertaste. Alittle watery. Bubbles on the tongue.

All Sam Choy’s beer tastes the same. It is just beer. Nothing exciting nor flavorful at all. Then none of the local Hawaiian brew has been. It is true: Homebrewing good brew does, in fact, turn one into a beer snob.

This beer was the highlight of my sampling at Big Aloha. A perfectly crafted, and somewhat unique, island brew. Deep brown with sasparilla underpinning and a respectable head. The nose easily fills with a sweet roastiness, true to its honey porter name. As the bartender tells me, island honey (acacia?) is used for this brew. It certainly adds a distinct and pleasurable complexity the well put togther porter base. The sweetness complements the heavier roast notes that are richly nuanced with chocolate, coffee, and maltiness. MIlk chocolate finish. A medium-bodied, flavorful and quaffable brew.

Tap. Dark chocolate, coffee, and licorice aroma. Dark brown color with minimal head. Fudge malt flavor with a licorice/hops finish. Nice full body - damn tasty.

Not a bad porter, somewhat malty and sweet up front; roasty dry and creamy finishing palate; some pheonelic notes; well balanced

Not much aroma on this dark black beer. Subtle coffee-cream flavors, with a bit of bitter note. Nice warmer.
