Retorp (2156), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2007 The aroma holds candy sugar, dark fruit and mild perfumey alcohol. The body is a ruddy amber brown with a frothy white head that is fairly lasting. The first sip yields phenols, cherries, candy sugar and almond extract. Somewhat thinnish, but still pretty damn drinkable.
Ibrew2or3 (2003), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2008 Poured up on tap at the brewpub clear amber with tiny off white head. The aroma is mostly dark fruity esters, coriander like spices, yeasty spice and candi sugar. The taste is full of notes from fruity esters like prunes, plums, cherries and raisins with an initial burst of coriander and pepper. Behind those notes is a sweet candi sugar note taking the experience to closure with lingering sweet rip cherries and ripe plums going into the after taste. soicanbreathe (8), Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA does not count Jun 29, 2008 A very balanced sweetness, and great color, this beer was enjoyable. definate carmel malts, and a decent aroma Oakes (7047), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jun 14, 2008 Golden-brown colour. Very bubblegummy with some acetaldehyde. Sweet, spicy taste with some clove, and lots of sticky toffeeish malts. It retains some semblance of balance but still I feel it’s fermented too high, lending it those unpleasant aromatics. daknole (1294), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2008 I had this earlier this year and I must say this was a good beer. Malty and sweet with good carbonation. I really liked this reddish brown beer. Nice job. unclemattie (1747), Georgia, USA Apr 2, 2008 2002 Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal Winner. Sampler. Deep mahogany, thin head. ( Like a coca-cola.) Sweet aroma. Raisins, bubble-gum, plums and sweet pear juice. Flavor is sweet candi, caramel, toffee, and lots of dried fig. Medium bodied, dry mouthfeel despite the sweet flavor. Very enjoyable. Very comparable to Ommegang or any trappist dubbel.
