Impressive. This beer is all about the smooth, subtle richness of malt and coffee with none of the fruity character you might get from other brews. The aroma is deep and rich like an old ale with notes of toffee and roasted malt--then, the coffee and chocolate peak through... The taste is a swirl of malty goodness with notes of deep rich malt, slight toffee, lots of chocolate, coffee, and no acidic fruity notes. Finish is velvety and smooth like a well worn leather belt. It’s just awesome.

Really love this beer and one of my favorites. Love the brown sugar, molasses and espresso coffee tastes to this.

Pours a deep black from the bottle with fluffy tan brown head that dissipates but leaves thin cap that lasts all the way down with good lace. Aroma of big coffee up front, dark roast and dark malt, hint of earth and leather. Taste is more coffee and soy, nice roasty back end with just a hint of the booze on the way down. Medium bitterness, soft carbonation, overall a solid stout that borders on imperial.

My Bottom Line:
This luxurious cake of a Coffee Imperial Stout is the setting for luscious coffee, milk chocolate and underlying fruitiness, building a most satisfying dessert.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy sheet of foam protects the brown-hued blackness.
-This is very sweet, but the fruitiness and light roastiness make it more than palatable.
-The finish could be hoppier (to my tastes).
-This is not a complex Imperial Stout, but it certainly does its job very well.br />
-This remains a great dessert brew for sweet teeth.
-If you are a fan of Péché Mortel, Speedway Stout and other coffee-laden hefty Stouts, this should be right up your alley.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Raleigh. Big coffee flavor up front, with a nice, smooth finish that had a little hint of alcohol. Easy drinking stout, good for cold weather.

Bottle at Bruce’s Birthday batch @Craft Islington. Thanks to C-Dogg! It pours deep ruby-brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, musty, coffee, dark chocolate and barnyard. The taste is coffee, toasty, earth, mild acidity, chocolate and light tang with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Fairly one-dimensional. OK, but I was hoping for more depth.
