COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Kölsch is a refreshingly pale German style Ale. It is cold fermented and cold conditioned to achieve a beautiful balance between biscuit malt flavors and floral hop notes. It is light bodied and finishes somewhat dry to enhance it's easy drinking nature. Please enjoy our interpretation of this beer of Zümmer! Editor's Note: Renamed Angry Angel Kolsch by the brewer.

Bottle. Label shows 4.5% ABV. Will adjust. Lightly hazed golden pour. Rapidly vanishing white head. Nose is chock full of grains, soft lemon and honey and light grassy notes. Taste is grainy, grassy, lightly floral hops, some buttery biscuit, and light lemon. Body is light-medium and rather crisp during the finish. Mild carbonation throughout. Fades quickly. The finish is made up of more strong grain, slightly burnt buttered biscuit, light lemon and grass hops. Not bad at all!

Appearance: Pours a clear, orangey body with a thin, wispy, white head. Smell: Light, slightly sweet-smelling grainy scent with an addition of a crisp white wine. Taste: Subtly sweet pale maltiness with a touch of grains. Light hint of fruit. Dash of white wine. Spicy hops with prominent, medium bitterness that lasts till the dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation. Drinkability: I could stand to see more carbonation here, but it’s fairly on track for the style, but also pleasant, tasty beer in it’s own right.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 20, 2008
Pours a transparent brass golden color with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of grainy pale German malts and mild noble hops. Body starts semi-sweet with some good, crisp bittering and flavor hoppiness before a smooth bittersweet finish. Doesn’t quite have the mild fruity notes of a true Kölsch, but is a pretty nice Pilsener.

Pours a very light orange pale with not much carbonation. No head. Light smells of yeast. First taste is rather bland followed by a slight bitterness. Very light and mild. More flavor than I expected.

Finally in bottles. Pours a slightly hazy carbonated pale brownish yellow. One to two finger frothy white head. The nose is earthy, old fruit, grassy, some hay, slighty bready sweetness. The flavor is earthy and malty, lagering apparent, no hop bitterness, grassy, hay, old fruit. Pretty good kolsch.

Thanks ucusty, bottle: I have not had too many of this style before. Pale golden pour, some bubbly white head. Aroma is so weird; like cheerios or graham crackers, or honey-dusted biscuits. Flavor is light bodied and dry and reminds me of those "green bottled" brews, with a slight skunk character to it but not a detriment to the beer.

This beer was quite a nice example of the style: pleasant fruity hops and light yeast flavors. A bit light on the palate yet still enjoyable.

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2008 Draft. Very light yellow color, almost no head, some big bubbles cling to the glass. A muted nose of straw, graininess, and just a small hint of hops. The flavor’s pretty mild and straight ahead...bread and a touch of sweetness. Extremely thin in body, flavor, and aroma, and though it finishes cleanly, there’s nothing too impressive about this one. A good palate cleanser between nice beers or a much nicer replacement for cheap light beer.

Draught at Tyr na Nog in downtown Raleigh. Looks light golden, medium head--dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is light sweetness and some grain in aroma. Flavor is similar, bitter in the end, with a soft mouth feel. Little dry in finish. Nice session beer.

The aroma was slight sulfur with a low winey characteristic. The aroma was lightly grainy and quite fruity. The beer arrived clear pale straw with a white tight bubbled head which lasted well to lace the glass. The flavor was lightly grainy and malty with a spicy hop presence and a winey characteristic. The sulfur in the aroma carried through into the flavor. The finish was dry with a light lasting hop and spice into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a somewhat low level of carbonation. All in all a nice Kolsch. Pint at VDH.
