tjthresh (1422), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Jun 11, 2008 On tap at the Red Drum Grill and Taphouse in Nags Head, NC. Pours cola brown with a fizzy tan head. Light aroma of roast and cocoa powder. Same light chocolate flavor with some nuts and earthy hops. Medium body but kind of watery and spritzy. Dry finish.
jhliesen (377), West Melbourne, Florida, USA Jan 2, 2009 Bottle-First of all, I’ve got to say that it’s a silly looking label. Solid brown color with a medium tand head with the pour. Mostly malts in the aroma maybe some caramel. The flavor follow along, but was thin all over, nothing stuck out, the malts or the caramel. There wasn’t much sweetness and the finish was a bit metallic. Brusin ales. OldGrowth (1309), the Contaiment Area, North Carolina, USA Dec 8, 2008 pint at Village Draft house back on march 10th by the note I found. Sweet aroma, lite citrusy notes about it, nutty malts. Dark orangy brown color, Good head and lace. Bittersweet flavor chocolate, caramel, nutty, Thin body, lite creamy mouthfeel, bittersweet finish. Tasty brown, easy to drink. A good local I can find around in alot of non beer geek restaurants and bars. I like the aroma a little more overall, but not significantly. Session beer for sure. chandler0201 (153), Durham, North Carolina, USA Dec 6, 2008 Brown pour with large head that quickly dissipates. Flavor of nuts and malts and taste of nuts and molasses with a somewhat irritating metallic aftertaste. Not bad, but most of their smaller craft brews are better. Bottle born in august 2008. Well, true to its style, this pours brown and also sports a good sized head. The aroma is nutty, bitter, toasty, and slightly metallic. Pretty uneventful in the flavor. I don’t get strong pulls in any direction. It’s remarkably mild even for a brown. Some toasted nuts, soy sauce, and brown sugar show up. The finish is slightly seltzer like. There isn’t much here. I was really excited to see the Big Boss bottles at first, I’ve now changed my mind. brewski519 (84), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a mahogany with a creamy head that doesn’t linger - a slightly nutty aroma with a hint of molasses and chocolate. Taste is fairly mild with some maltiness to it. Not a bad brown ale - I would drink it again for sure.
