3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 24, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a clear dark brown with a small (less than 1 finger) tan foamy head which dissipated soon after the pour and had fair lacing.
The aroma was of a roasted caramel malt and a sweet yeast with a hint of chocolate, a mild roasted coffee and had a slight sweet nutty presence.
The taste had a nice rich maltiness to it and was a bit sweet in the beginning and pretty much the same throughout with a hint of chocolate, coffee and a mild nuttiness at the end with the flavor lasting quite a while after the swallow letting the Chocó-coffee flavor linger for a decent while.
Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy in texture with the body being about medium and had a mild carbonation.
Overall definitely a good tasting brew, easy to drink and had a nice lingering aftertaste. Just right for the Brown Ale category!!

Old rating. Brown ale standard fare. Nutty and bit doughy. No real chocolate or hop presence. Boring but not bad.

From my future son ion law. Aroma is quite malty. Taste is rather obtuse. Yes, malty carries over and its a little annoying. Reminds me a little of nes castle, no?

12oz pour at Charleston Beer Works, pours a clear brown with some slim head. Nose has brown sugar sweetness, some malt, faint chestnut honey, some dried fruit. Flavor is the same, overly sweet, fig, caramel, some orange. Messy finish.

Smooth malty smell, hoppier than I thought...not bad though, malty finish, waters down with time but improves,

Draft @ CLT Hilton. Aroma of slightly sweet malt. Dark brown color, copper highlights, of white head with pretty good lacing. Sweet flavor, light malt. No bitterness. Fairly high carbonation lends it a medium mouthfeel. Not a bad example of English brown ale.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep, sticky nuttiness. Caramel malt, thick body. English toffee, a touch of hoppiness. Butterscotch. Underrated.

Decent English style with bready notes from a nice English Malt finishing with more caramel than brunt notes. The aroma definitely has a basement smell in the best way possible. Definitely sessionable.
