3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Immy (1948) - Virginia Beach, USA - MAY 3, 2009
Bomber at the brewery, #898 of 1750. Black with a thin brown head. A Belgian ale? Really? Sounds like an identity crisis. This beer smells like a raspberry stout with some Belgian yeast notes. Tastes like it too, chocolaty and light, sweet raspberry. Whatever it is, it was clearly the best beer at Big Boss during my visit.

Not much aroma from this draft. Black in color brown head. I can see some hint if red in the outer edge of the lacing. This tastes great just hard for me to describe. Mild coffee with a hint of sweetness at the finish but I don’t pick out the raspberries. Body is full and the texture is creamy and is awesome. Love this.

Opaque black with a rim head and no lace. Bitter chocolate shows early, persisting to the end; the finish produces a light splash of fruit juice, perhaps raspberry. Good, but not great.

On tap at Growler’s in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte. Can’t believe this is listed as a raspberry beers. Pours like a stout. Dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, little coffee, and maybe a bit of fruit. Finishes dry and roasty. Solid stout imo.

Nice beer. One of the better Big Boss beers. $3 draft at leesville taproom is a nice deal. I dont get any Belgian qualities out of this...just a stout w/ slight raspberry finish. I would guess they used an american ale yeast vs. a belgian yeast but what do I know. No raspberry in the nose just stouty maltyness. Very easy to drink, nice pour on draft.
