hazy dark caramel, wispy beige head, streaks of lace, sweet dark caramel malt aroma with light citrus and a touch of sweet pine, body starts a bit thin but becomes thick and sticky, caramel malt flavor, sweetness is well balanced with light citrus hop flavor and a long bitter finish, hop flavor keeps getting stronger and picks up some piney sweetness, keeps getting better and better as you drink it

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 5, 2007
Sampled from a growler on 3/14/07: Pours a transparent coper orange with a spotty-lacing, small frothy off-white head. Aroma of fresh, earthy, grapefruity hops with some sweet caramel malt. Body starts fresh, sweet and caramely malty with a lot of grapefruity bittering hops and a warming finish. A decent double IPA.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Braudog (4606) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - APR 29, 2007
Draft glass at the brewery; orange-red and extremely still. This lacks any real aroma. Lots of whopping bite to this one. Strong alcoholic burn with a burnt caramel twist. (#2821, 4/27/2007)
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - APR 25, 2007
Growler: Poured a hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Grapefruity hops start out the aroma with sweet malt underneath then some alcohol. Light earthy hops were detected after the beer warmed. The flavor was a mix of hops and malt with a sweet finish. The finish was also moderately bitter.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Suttree (3925) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - APR 23, 2007
Sampled at the 2007 Hickory Hops. Nice stuff, a nice mix of sweet and bitter, on a smooth, almost creamy palate. thoroughly enjoyable, and the server was really cute too. Can I use that as criteria to bump up the "appearance" score?
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TURDFERGUSON (2752) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - MAY 12, 2007
On tap at the speakeasy in carrboro. Poured a clear dark amber with a sudsy white head. Nose was dirty, earthy, citrus hops. Flavor is sweet with caramel malts with a lot of bitter hops in the finish. Alcohol pretty well hidden. This is pretty good, but it could be much better. In any case, big boss is putting out some nice beers and i appreciate it.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 ucusty (2670) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - SEP 21, 2007
very bland not much hop on the finish, actually rather diaspointed in this beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OldGrowth (1859) - North Carolina, USA - APR 22, 2007
Growler from brewery. Godd aroma Sweet, Citrusy, Orange, lemon-lime, Grapefruit. Got some apricot peach when cold. Turned grapefruity at it’s warmest. Hazed brownish orange color, little to no head, minor lace. Bitter sweet flavor, Like aroma, but lemon & grapefruit stand out the most. Minor toasted malts, but are buried by the hops. Medium body, Smooth viscous mouthfeel, bitter finish. Good IIPA. Lost what I liked in the aroma as it warmed.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Magjayran (1379) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - APR 13, 2007
Draft at the Federal in downtown Durham, NC. Amber orange color with a thin white head. Wonderful citrusy hope explosion in my nostrils promises joy. What starts as a somewhat typical grapefruity DIPA is magically transformed when the malt flavor hits turning it into a pineapple delight that comes back and hits you with a bitter kick at the finish. The carbonation is somewhat soft but it works well with this beer. A magnificent success for this newly renamed brewery.
