This style originated in Belgium to compete with the pilsners from Czechoslovakia, Germany, and Poland. It is a fruity ale with very strong carbonation, with complex, spicy flavors like cloves.

Pours gold into the glass with almost no head. Aroma is somewhat spicy. Flavor has some citrus and spice but also has a lot of residual sugar left over. Cloying.

Bottle. Golden with a whispy white head. I actually quite like the appearance. This beer smells a little different than the few times I’ve had it before. More Belgian wit-like. Before it was anyone’s guess. Nose shows some clove, phenols, spice. Flavor is lightly spiced and fruity with a yeasty, clove finish. A pretty average Belgian wit. Closer to the style than any of my previous encounters so thats a plus.

Pours a light colored golden color. Almost no head is present, light carbonation is throughout. Aroma is very honey-like, a lot of bread is present as well. Taste is slightly tart yet spicy, the thing that I notice the most is clove. Its ok. Not great.

Dirty amber with tiny head and weak lacing. The problem with this brew is that it doesn’t taste at all like a belgian ale - no caramel malt or orange fruitcake, no full body, no lightly bittered finish. Just an odd butterscotch overbalanced by bittering. One’ll do.

Bottle. Citrus, spice, and herb aroma. Pours golden yellow, thin white head. Thin body, medium carbonation. Smooth but not crisp, not very refreshing. Long, slightly bitter palate. Not great, not terrible.

12 oz bottle. Foggy yellow brown with a slim white head. Nose is yeast, honey and ginger. Frothy medium body, a bit chalky. Taste is orange, yeast and lemon-lime.

Well, the’s beer general desciption is right on- Strong carbonation, fruity ale, kind of spicy. Full frothy head. Med sweetness with some spicy tones. Lighter body. Long bittery/spicy/(sour?) finish. Ok beer.

12oz. bottle from a Harris Teeter: This one pours a hazy straw golden yellow color. There was a bit of a white head on it that lingers just a bit and leaves some lacing. An interesting nose. The main thing I get is honey followed by floral notes. Some breadiness and clove also. The taste is OK. There is a slight tartness to it with just a hint of bitterness. I also get some faint fruit and wheat. Slightly bready, spices and fruit notes also. Interesting and not bad.

Pour is a gold with a large white head. Aroma is sweet malt with a large sweetness. Flavor is fruit with a sickly sweetness toward the end. Way to sweet to recommend this one. They really went with the candi sugar with this one.

Bottle. Found this to be about average for a belgian ale. Not bad by anymeans, but probably not something I would try again.
