2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours black as night (see what I did there?) with a thick caramel head that leaves mild lacing in the glass. Aroma is dark fruits, coffee and roasted malts. This is labeled as a Black IPA but it doesn’t really taste like one. I didn’t get any hoppiness like from other Black IPA’s. Instead I got a ton of roasted malt, coffee, and alcohol. It’s very strong, just not hoppy. Not bad, but not what I was hoping for.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at real McCoys in wf. Really tasty beer more of a stout or porter then a black IPA but really good none the less. A lot of toasted flavor a must try.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz. dubbed on 03/25/2014. Pours deep black with a lasting film of creamy bubbles. Aroma is dark chocolate, char and orange toffee. Taste is dark chocolate, pineapple, toast, melon and grapefruit with a nice bittering undercurrent of smoked green herb and ashy resin. A touch of mint in the lingering finish. Medium body has a low-medium carbonation and an excellent balance. These guys are definitely getting better; this is by far the best of the half dozen brews I’ve sampled in the last 5 years from this brewery and one of the best of 50 or so BIPA’s I’ve had.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Scopey’s 5000th rate. Bottle cheers to Leighton the Black IPA man. Pours very dark brown with a sticky khkaki head. Very lace driven stuff. Nose is bitter cocoa, very grassy and pine driven, plenty of orange. Taste has baker’s chocolate powder, ground coffee beans, a bitter and ashy body and quite a grassy finish. Very earthy> Carbonation is a little muddle. Sweet to a long bitter follow through. Decent stuff

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle split at Scopey’s 5K Extravaganza of Oompah Band meets doorbell music, big thanks to the CDA finder general, Leighton - 15/02/14.
Light black with a big old faded tan covering.
Nose is cocoa, earthy, light plastic, smoke, faint tropicals.
Taste comprises cocoa, mineral bite, dark fruit, earthy hop presence, touch of pine.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
Ok CDA, entry level affair, not enough hop presence or tropicana for my liking.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a thick light tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, pine, varnish, dark chocolate, light sherbet and blackcurrant jam. The taste is rich-roast, earth, toast, coffee, dark fruit, touch of berry, good deal of bitterness, with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice depth of flavour and good bitterness. Rather nice,

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
black pour with small ring of light tan head. Very bitter. Roasty aroma, dark chocolate and piney hops. Flavor is Almost overly bitter imho. Woody tannins. Dark chocolate finish. Not the best example of the style. But not bad.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Bruisin’. pours a near black with a well shaped, long lasting tan head. Aroma has notes of brownies and earth with sharp citrus cutting through, though not as hoppy as some others in the style. I love this style, while a good beer, Night Knight falls a little short. The hops add plenty of bitterness but don’t quite separate from the sturdy malt foundation. There are roasty notes that bring cheap rest stop coffee to mind and a chalkiness, something like nut shells maybe. The finish is bitter, but not super developed beyond that. While certainly not a bad beer, there are countless superior black IPAs out there.
