On tap at Big Buck, Gaylord. Part of the "Brewer’s Private Gourmet Collection," listed at 12.7% ABV. Presumably this is close enough to this listing to rate here. Deep opaque brown/black body, thin ring of medium brown carbonation. Sweet nose with molasses and licorice. Chewy body with a ton of sweet chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, and berries; smooth, silky, sweet, and rich. Little apparent alcohol despite the likely-inflated ABV.

GABF 2006: Deep black color with a brown head. The aroma was of sweet roasted malt with some mild chocolate notes. The flavor was very sweet with a good bit of chocolate and roasted malt. The finish was warming to the point of just a light burning.

Draft at 2004 MBG Summer Festival. Small tan head with fine-small sized bubbles that were mostly lasting. Uncarbonated, opaque with a dark brown hue. Malty and coffee aroma with a hint of chocolate. Malty flavor from start to finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium bodied beer with fair lacing.

Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival Saturday July 24, 2004. The draft brew poured a small head of finely sized brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a great lacing. The body was opaque and black in color with no visible carbonation. The aroma was strong with big roasted malts and a lingering roasted malty note. It had a mouth feel with strong roasted malt start and finish. The flavor also contained the same strong roasted malts. It was very good, but the roasted notes tended to overpower the rest of the beers highlights.

Terribly unbalanced mesh of soy sauce, chocolate, and alcohol in the samples from the Michigan Summer Beer Fest. I saw more than one sample dumped to the ground after a small sip. Very strange aftertaste, chocolate-licorice and alcohol linger.

Chocolate foam with reasonable lace. Pretty 'thin' taste going down and leaves a trace of burn with the slight medicine after taste.
