This smells reallt great. Lots of hops mixed with some thickness/strength as well. I thought this was great. Plenty of hops but a decent body as well. Definitely a Black IPA I could drink again. A nice finish too.

Draft served in a pint glass at Public House in the Venetian. Pours a very dark brown with amber at the bottom and a creamy beige head that laces the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops, tropical fruits, caramel malts, an pine resin. Flavor of citrusy hops, toasty and caramel malts, tropical fruits, chocolate, pine resin, and grapefruit. Medium-bodied, with modest carbonation and a smooth, juicy mouthfeel. Sweeter and fruitier than most black IPAs, without the same bitterness. Drinkable. Very good black IPA for those of us that don’t always want a bitter citrus and dark chocolate bomb.

Draft at the brewpub. Yep, it’s black, with a frothy head. It delivers a big hoppy bite, full of citric acidity. It’s easy up front, but the acid really hijacks the whole thing in the middle, unfortunately missing any backbone that would’ve made this excellent. But it grew on me as it warmed and in the end it’s a fairly decent American IPA that happens to be near-black, less chalky than many entrants in this uber-trendy "style". (#4478, 2/15/2012).
