Just based on the pure amount of hops in this baby I would’ve put the alcohol at even higher than 8.6%. The bar was so smoky it was a little difficult to smell, but the rest of the beer was so great that I assume it was too. Hops, hops, hops is this beer. Wonderful, but of course, only for the true IPA fans.

Draft. Pours slightly hazy orange with a decent whtie, fluffy head. Big citrus and grapefruit aroma. Hops definitely dominates, a little candy sweetness at the end. Thin and astringent mouthfeel. This is one that I have had several times and I think gets better everytime.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 turbo (1271) - Arizona, USA - JAN 29, 2006
Orange with a big thick head.
Big citrus, grapefruit aroma and flavor.
Got a bit of a soapy, creamy flavor on the finish but overall not bad.

9th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Fest: Hazy golden amber with a minimal off-white head. Nice fresh grapefruit hops. Caramel malt tries to show its head. Flavor is thick with grapefruit and caramel malt. Light bitterness. Pretty tasty beer.

Sampled at the Pizza Port 9th Strong Ale Festival. Aroma is quite hoppy, as expected. Good malt backbone to balance the very floral and cascade hops, a decent DUIPA - enjoyed.

as i have said before, of the poorly made beers in the las vegas valley....big dogs brews some of the best, with a realatively small percentage of people drinking it or even knowing about it. found this one uncharactistacly at a bar that wasnt owned by the big dog assoc. poured with a orange amber hue large bubbly head that raced away to nothing. notes of cascade in the nose. mouth feel was solid with lots of flowery citrus hops pushing vanilla, buttery, rock candy flavors. thin malt backbone that balanced the beer nicely. as the beer warmed increasing the sweetness and alcohol feel to this. quite a lovely beer and the best big dog beer i have had to date.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Schultsc (572) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 17, 2005
UPDATED: JUN 24, 2005 Thin, small head and a hazy orange color. Light aroma of citrus hops. Very few malt characteristics--no sweetness and quite bitter. Floral resin flavors come through in the finish. Pleasantly one-dimensional: hops driven. Great crisp and refreshing mouth feel. Definitely holds your interest across several pints.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Bockyhorsey (2607) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - APR 3, 2005
2005 Great Arizona Beer Festival sample 8oz. The hop aroma wasn’t as evident as other imperial ipa’s. Orange body and good taste to it. Glad I tried it, good beer.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 beerlist (23) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - FEB 8, 2005
UPDATED: FEB 26, 2005 Hop aroma was surprisingly absent the first time I tried it, but it’s becoming quite a bit more evident over time. Hazy orange in color. Head similar to that of their Dirty Dog IPA, not overly foamy, appropriate for the style. LOTS of hop flavor, but still with enough maltiness to back it up. Flavor becomes even more prominent as the beer gets warmer. A very nice Imperial IPA, could use a bit more aroma, but the aroma does seem to be improving as it ages.
