On tap at the brewery/brewpub. Pours deep clear copper with off white head. The aroma has lots of caramel type malts (rather then kettle caramelization), some mild roasted malts and I almost get a sense of vanilla in there too. The taste is sweet with caramel malts, a touch of roast and a thicket of sweet crystal malts. The hops are just there but I’m not getting the type though.

On draught at the brewery taproom in Lynnwood, Washington. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that quickly dissipates to a film top and white ring. Nice spotty lacing after the dissolve too. Aroma of caramel malt, roasted nuts, some citrus zest and a touch of toffee. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of sweet caramel malt, a touch of pineapple, citrus zest and some honey. Finish is semi-sweet, malty with no bitterness. Quite tasty and a solid amber ale.

Draft at the brewpub. Medium amber with gold highlights. Light head of white filmy foam. Spotty lace on the sides. Not a lot going on on the nose but the mid-palate features some good rich caramel notes and there’s a bit of spicy hop in the finish. Nice stuff--you could definitely drink the heck out of this one.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JorisPPattyn (6725) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - APR 18, 2006
Draught Foxy-amber; slim rim, yellowish. Greenery nose with parsley, caramel and other coloured malts. Sweet, caramelly taste, just not sticky but close. Ends a bit watery but the main taste keeps on reasonably. Bit buttery - diacetyl! Very little, anyway. Not very well-bodied. So much brewing ’cause so little to do in suburbia? No, actually quite a few of these Big E ales would do very well given a little more character (that is NOT = more hops!)
