COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Premier Brands - the Canadian license holder for Headstrong Pale Ale - have taken the unique move of using the brand for a new beer that is not brewed at the original home of Headstrong, Montana’s Big Hole Brewing. Headstrong Munich Lager is their new offering, and like the Pale Ale, it is contract brewed at FX Matt for the Ontario market.

650ml bottle pours a pale amber color with a 2 finger off-white head that settles quite quickly leaving only a trace of lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel malts and herbal hops. Taste is light caramel malty sweetness with a herbal hop bitterness that lingers. Nothing special about this one.

Originally rated July 2006. Second beer to come out of Headstrong Brewing. Crafted date on side of label is on March 2006. Pours a golden-amber colour with a small head that dissipates quickly and leaves small amounts of lace. Average tiny bubble carbonation. Aroma of grainy malt with a touch of malt liquor alcohol. Watery mouthfeel that is mildly sticky. Crisp, with a slight dry finish. Mild bitterness throughout the taste with some maltiness. Slight buttery aftertaste. A better than average lager, but nothing to kill for.

473ml can. More flavourful than a typical lager while retaining a refreashing, easy drinking quality of the style.

Bottle. Poured into a DFH tulip glass an ever so slightly hazed deep copper color with a tiny white head that mostly collars around the glass. Toffee notes in the nose right off the bat with maybe a dash of caramel. Medium mouthfeel. Toffee again in the flavor as well with a slight roastiness that sets in. Semi-sweet. Ends kind of flat but crisp. Yeah, it’s fine, but I am sure there are way better examples of the style out there. Poor head retention and minimal lace.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Toby. Pours a clear amber color with a small white head. A sweet grainy nose, some light biscuit and dried leaves. A sweet flavor much like a Oktoberfest; biscuit, light fruit, smooth and light spicy hops. Easygoing, nice.

Papillon (283) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - APR 5, 2010
473 mL Can, Apr. 1, 2010. Gold body with a rocky white head that settles to a bubbly layer leaving good lace; highly effervescent. Aroma of grains earth, and resiny hops with very subtle hints of honey and floral. Flavor of sweet light malts and grains, hops express more strongly in the aftertaste, hints of honey and pear in the finish. Refreshing in its own way.

500ml can from NBliquor. Pours a clear golden color with small white head. Lots of carbonation. Nose is that of sweet malt and bread. Taste is bread with a small pleasant bitterness aftertaste. Texture is a bit syrupy witch I didn’t really enjoy. But Overall a nice little ale

500 ml can from LCBO. Pours amber in colour with giant white head. Aroma’s of bread, caramel matl, and earthy bitterness. Taste is not so balanced, hops overwhelm here. Pretty good.

Somewhat dissapointed by this beer. Pour is nice golden amberish body with a sizable head. Aroma is skunky ans cornish. Nothing good there. Taste is poor. Overall, will not drink again.

Clear golden with a medium fizzy head. Below average retention and lacing. Aroma is grainy with funky herbal hops, honey and metal. Flavor is grainy at first with some sweetness coming afterward. Also some herbal hops and a touch of honey and some cardboard. Medium body.
