Love the label illustration, but it won’t save this beer. Clear copper-caramel, filtered, with a decent little white head...creamy orange-vanilla in the nose, fresh and clean but rather weak...fruity body derailed by carboardy mouthfeel...dryly bitter towards the finish, body reasonably full. Not awful, but Jeez I expected more with that solemn brute on the label. MartinT (5050), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The Lure: A deep orange/brown gown proposes bright earthy hops, but mostly hefty caramel malts.
The Festivities: Potent caramel with fading, but supportive wooden hop bitterness. More and more the sweet and fruity malts take over, and the hops become undefined. There is nothing complex going on here, flavors are really straightforward, but it is a very satisfying pint for malt lovers.
Transcendence: Preparing the coulis for a piece of game. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 7, 2005 Amber in colour with a medium amount of carbonation. The nose is an interesting blend of earthy and floral hops with just the slightest suggestion of American C-hop grapefruitiness underneath. There is some light malt flavor, along with some fruity yeast notes and more of the earthy British hops. Basic but satisfying. Lighter bodied than one might expect from this style. Thanks to Lubiere for the sample. rudolf (1758), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 4, 2005 Thanks to Greg Clow for the bottle. Very sweet grapefruit/orange nose, some toasty malt. This one is a bit too sweet for me with herbal and earthy hops. Bitterish malty finish. Slightly cloying. Boutip (2350), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2005 Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a huge foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma is quite bitter with some nice floral malt also noticeable. Taste is very refreshing with a nice bitter kick at the end. Closer to an American Pale Ale in my mind then an English type Ale but very enjoyable nonetheless. heemer77 (4303), Savannah, Missouri, USA

The body is amber with a large slightly off white head. The aroma is light flowers with some slight citrus. The taste is well balanced grapefruit and some bread with a little bit of spice. iambeer (255), Ontario, Canada
