3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Ram Restaurant and Brewery, Schaumburg, IL) Draft... DLDí08... Clear golden ale with a large, creamy, off-white head. No retention, but nice lacework. Toffee and citrus notes dominate the aroma. Medium-bodied with a ridiculously dry mouthfeel and tingly carbonation. Finishes violently bitter and sucks all moisture from my mouth. Over-attenuated, for certain. Still, an aromatic, tasty brew.

Listed as Big Red I.P.A. Had at Humperdinks on Greenville. Prettiest beer of the taster I had. Very nice retention and great lacing from the white head. Light fruity notes in the aroma. Very watery taste with floral elements, finishes like a bitter IPA. Very watery and thin body.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Called Big Red IPA on the bottle. Light clear red appearance. Nice nose of cascade hops, raspberries and sweet peaches. Very abrasive and acidic initally, with a more robust wood hop flavor towards the middle of the drink, before rolling back with a raspberry hint. Big hops at the start of the drink, but not a bitter finish. Some peanut flavor shows up as well.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Ram - Wheeling, IL. Poured a clear, lighter orangey-golden with a short cap of white head and some nice lacing. More of a focus on the caramel and grapefruit in the nose than the pine, grapefruit, and lemony hops beneath. Flavor was of sweet caramel with a more assertive well-placed grapefruit and pine bitterness.. candy-like bitter twist at the finish.. tasty. Medium body. Nice transition from sweet, smooth middle to a moderately bitter finish.. felt very good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
From a sampler at the Indy location: Pours a reddish-amber color with a medium light beige head. Thin lacing. The aroma is moderately hoppy with some citrus as well. The body is not too rich. The flavor is nicely hopped at first but it drops off dramatically by the end. The finish is decent, with a mixture of floral and citrusy hops. A little better than average overall.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On draft @ Ram. Served up way too cold in an 18oz tumbler. This big red IPA doesnít really look all that red. Itís kind of a light copper with abundant tan head. The aroma is light but has a nice grapefruit hop punch with much lesser amounts of malt. The flavor has a tasty grapefruit hop bitterness with hints of a floral hop quality. Near midway a sweet pale to lightly roasted maltiness comes out. Not long after the maltiness succumbs to the somewhat bitter grapefruit hop finish. Nice IPA.
