Brewed as a medium India Pale Ale, this full-flavored moderately hopped beer has the strongest hop character of our ales. Made for hopheads and new beer aficionados. The grist composition is 94% Pale malt, with the remaining grain bill consisting of carastan malts. The finishing Mt. Hood hop addition in the whirlpool gives this beer a good hop character without becoming excessively bitter. The beer is fined instead of filtered so the hop character is not stripped away.

Golden orange color. Nice Pacific Northwest Hop aroma. Smells a little uniquely fruity too. Flavors of floral, pine, and pepper w pale malts and a little fruity sweetness. Finishes a little spicy. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

(Growler thanks to BA Exiled) Pours very pale/amber with spare ring of head. Nose of pine/citrus hops. Taste is very bitter hops, grapefruit. Overall I thought it was way too bitter with no malt to back it up.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2005 Not a bad drink, but these people make it difficult to judge since they insist on serving every beer in an iced pint glass. Not a bad color, orange-brown, with a moderate head that laced the glass nicely. It’s got a piney hop aroma with a hint of grapefruit. You also get a hint of the malt - unusual for the style. Very solid malt flavor, in serious competition with the hops bitterness. A bit watery... although it may have been from the iced glass. Totally clean finish with (a minus) no lingering bitter aftertaste.

Had a barrel aged version of this at a festival in Chicago. Enjoyed it just as much, even with the added element of Jim Beam in the aroma.

Bronze/amber color with sticky and creamy head with lots of lacing. The aroma is bright and floral with pacific northwestern hops. A very fresh pine/grapefruit aroma hits too. The flavor has a light bitterness with a very dry finish and light body. Easty drinking, well-made batch of the Big Red (when I tried this). A nice marshmallow caramel end, not too bad.

Draft to taster at Ram in Indy. Looks solid; a transparent burnt orange with eggshell head. Smells solid; nice juicy hops with a medium-bodied pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells, but maltier. Average on the palate. Solid, but it smells better than it tastes.

This used to be called Big Red IPA. Whats up with that? Minus 2 points for the marketing. Light amber color. Medium malts, slightly hoppy. Slightly caramelized malts, some malt sweetness. Not a typical IPA, more of a red ale. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty

A deep amber color with a nice hopped aroma. The flavor was a deep hoppy flavor with a nice flavor of malts. This was a very good IPA. Not over the top with hops which is good.

Draught: Light amber brown color. Clear and sparkling. Average, lasting, creamy white head. Excellent lacing. Nutty malts, heavy hop flavors of flowers, herbs, spruce, citrus, and grapefruit. Also tasted of pepper, allspice, coriander, ginger, medicine. Full bidy and oily texture. Lively carbination. Bitter finish. Same hops as TwoRow Hopzilla (Amarillo I think).

Draft- Spokane. Copper color with a small off white head. Pine aromas abound. Grapefruit, pine and celery flavors. A typical APA/IPA.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a very small sized head of foamy finely sized clear colored bubbles that were and left behind a transparent uncarbonated orange colored body and a oily lacing. The mild aroma was hoppy. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
Earlier Rating: 3/4/2004 Total Score: 2.9
This bottled brew poured a small head of off-white colored fine to large sized mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a very good lace. The body was not noted. THe aroma was more like an ESB than an IPA, not hoppy enough. It had the flavor and mouth feel of a Pale Ale with a malt hop somewhat bitter finish.
