Commercial Description:
A full-bodied, malty ale with a distinctive roasted barley flavor. Balanced with Cascade bittering hops and Hallertau finishing hops. Don't be afraid of the dark! Alcohol is about 5.6% a/w, making it the strongest Big Horn beer on tap.

(Ram Restaurant and Brewery, Schaumburg, IL) Draft... DLD’08... Clear black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Wafts of nutty, dark roast coffee and cocoa send my olfactory system into an ascending spin. Medium-bodied with bristly carbonation. Chocolaty with medium sweetness. Balanced decently by charcoal malts and moderately bitter, herbal lupulin. Chocolaty, coffee-dry finish. Surprisingly spot-on stout!

Pour is black with a thin brown head...smell is roasty and sweet with a lot of chocolatey notes...roasty sweet chocolate flavor...fairly chewy and velvety mouthfeel...hints of bitterness in the finish...

This draft brew from the brewery in Chicago poured a medium sized head of foamy tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a semi-opaque dark ruby red brown colored body and a fair lacing. The almost non-existant aroma was malty. The semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The mild flavor contained notes of malt hops and roasted malt. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

On tap at Ram - Schaumburg. This was a very pleasant surprise! Poured a beautiful deep brown with a thick, creamy cap of caramel head. Aroma was of deeply-roasted cocoa, coffee, and faint hints of herbal.. full and quite enticing! Flavor had a couple really nice levels of roasted chocolate.. first cocoa, then some darker chocolate.. coffee and faint grassy bitterness was quite complementary.. some dark fruits emerge at the back-end, and were quite welcome. Medium-bodied with nice depth of flavor.. very good mouthfeel.
