Sampled at 4th Boulder Strong Ale Fest. Beer poured a clear, medium brown color with a small, creamy, white head. The aroma was a litte shy, but still quite pretty: malty with moderate notes of toasted grain; hppy with light notes of herb; light miscellaneous notes of wood and honey, moderate notes of vanilla, date/raisin and black tea and a heavy note of sherry. The flavor was moderately bittersweet with an average-length, moderately sweet and tangy finish. The body was light-to-medium, the texture was watery and the carbonation was soft and there was a moderate alcoholic feel finish.

2006 Boulder Strong Ale Fest: Deep red-brown. Syrupy texture with a relatively light carbonation. Big chocolate flavors throughout; lesser notes of toffee and toast. Slightly bitter, chocolaty finish kept the mouth watering into the aftertaste. Tasty, but not overly exciting. Yearned for more boldness on many fronts. And I wondered why I don’t see more beers like this at my local C.B. & Potts.
