COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the silver medal winner in the Brown Porter division of the 1996 Great American Beer Festival. The mash temperature is higher to produce body and mouth feel. The 2-row barley base, in addition to a combination of chocolate and carastan malts, gives this beer a smooth, round character with chocolate undertones. Many people who normally don’t drink dark beers will drink this beer.

Tap in Schaumburg. Pours dark brown/black with a medium, fizzy tan head, medium-short retention with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (roast, chocolate), no hops, and notes of wood and dates. Flavor is malt dominant. Light body, low warmth, medium carbonation and a dry finish.

Arrived to the table a dark black in color with a low tan head. Sweet prune, dark chocolate, light coffee with a mild burn round out the nose. Sweet plum fruitiness hits first in the taste with notes of chocolate, strong overall sweetness and a light cigar ending. Feels creamy and has pretty low carbonation. Overall an okay offering by the RAM in Schaumburg, IL.

Aroma is chocolate and sweet on the nose. Appearance is dark brown/.black. Slightly sweet and balanced out with chocolate notes. Crisp, lightly hopped, . Reminds me more of an amber or ESB then a porter. Great with a burger, steak, or bbq..

Tasted on tap at the Fort Collins Horserooth location. Dark red/black appearance. Small head. Dark and quite malty flavor with a fairly decent and tasty coffee flavor. One of the best brews here.

On tap @ C.B. & Potts in Greenwood Village, CO. Dark deep brown with a light tan foamy head. Smell is malty cocoa with hints of coffee. No surprises there. Taste is very typical of the style: medium bodied with nothes of chocolate, subtle coffee, very light carmel. Has a finish that kinda faded out in flavor, somehwat stale tasting there. Not special, kinda weak.

Tried at numerous Ram locations. Decent but average porter. Trying to appeal to large audience by being a bit safe. However it does the job well and I can’t say it is bad. Serving: Tap
