COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the silver medal winner in the Brown Porter division of the 1996 Great American Beer Festival. The mash temperature is higher to produce body and mouth feel. The 2-row barley base, in addition to a combination of chocolate and carastan malts, gives this beer a smooth, round character with chocolate undertones. Many people who normally don’t drink dark beers will drink this beer.

A pretty standard porter. Lots of dark chocolate and hints of coffee linger. Tried after HILT in 2016 in Indianapolis.

Draft at source. Aroma of chocolate and light coffee. Light cocoa. Deep brown to black pour. Small light brown head. Taste is all chocolate, bordering on bakers chocolate to a dark Hershey chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with modest carbonation. Not bad.

Drinking it on draft at the RAM. APPEARANCE- super dark, but not black. Light head laces well. NOSE- roasty malt, chocolate scents create an allure for my mouth as I prepare to drink this black beauty. FLAVOR- also nicely roasty and slightly chocolaty. Little bit of bitterness to balance the sweetness. NOTES- nicely done porter.

Sampled at Ram-Rosemont, 10/26/15. Brown color with a thin, drippy lacing. Fairly sweet. But of roasty, bit of chocolate. A little thin overall.

On tap at Big Horn U District, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish together and a small tan head. Nose brings out toasted malt, some cocoa, and bready notes. Flavour is along the same lines, with bready malt, dry cocoa and a slight nuttiness. Well-balanced and clean. Very drinkable porter.

Served as Humperdinks Total Disaster Porter. Nonic pint draft at the Humperdinks in Dallas, Texas. The pour is an opaque brown black with a 1/2 inch well formed tan head. The aroma is sour malt, hint of roast and some vanilla sweet. The taste is iced coffee with milk, big shot of diacetyl as the beer warmed. The palate is medium to light bodied, low carbonation and the off flavors in the finish. Old school brewpub beer in all the wrong ways.

Draft - Toasted malts and roast. Deep black brown with a small beige head. Molasses, anise and some dark roast coffee. Pretty decent, with a roasty light burnt finish.
