charcot25 (181), Cordova, Tennessee, USA Jun 10, 2007 Deep chestnut brown in appearance with a sweet, nutty aroma. Tastes of chocolate, walnuts, molasses. Subtle hop backbone. Nice.
CanIHave4Beers (288), Des Moines, Iowa, USA Dec 23, 2008 This looks and smells typical, but very nice none the less. Pours very dark with a fluffy tan head that leaves a decent lace and has a good retention. The aroma is very quintessentially porter, coffee & chocolate with some mild hops. I really thought that this was going to surprise me as nice as it presented itself. The flavor is pretty stereotypically porter like, almost like if there were a generic black and white labeled bottle that just said porter on it. This would be it.... good thing I love porter, I mean no harm against this beer, in fact I am quite enjoying it, but it is truly nothing special. There is some mild fruit, some coffee, some chocolate, perhaps a little more hops than in the typical porter so it gets an extra point for that. I am just not sure how this could ever cause any total disorder though, everything just seems so logical. MeanMountnMan (14), Nampa, Idaho, USA Dec 15, 2008 Ive had this porter many times. It varys a little from keg to keg, but overall a very good porter.
APPEARANCE: Very dark with a slight bit of garnet showing through against the light. Thick brown head which left nice lacing as it went down.
AROMA: Malty aromas including chocolate and a little anise. Spicey hops in the back.
FLAVOR: Big malt flavors take the forefront. The sweetness is nicely blended with a small amount of bitterness. Roasted flavors with chocolate and anise, finishing with a light amount of hops. Nice balance overall.
PALATE: This is a thicker beer but not overly heavy. Well carbonated and finishes dry.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: This beer goes down way to easy for me. The flavors are blended well enough to make this very easy to drink.
Serving type: on-tap
after4ever (2006), Brier, Washington, USA Oct 26, 2008 Draft at the Tacoma Waterfront location. Clear, but nearly opaque, brownish black dense creamy head. Smells roasty and a little chocolatey. Creamy body. Light roast and chocolate mid-palate; super drinkable. joergen (6951), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 20, 2008 Draught at GABF 2008.
Black coloured with a small beige head.
Roasted aroma of caramel and chocollate.
Roasted flavour of caramel and chocolate.
Roasted finish. WabashMan (756), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 3, 2008 Hmm...pretty weak and watery for a porter. All the flavors are there...just not as strong as they need to be. Then again, with a burger I suppose this served to wash it down. Not awful or anything...just unremarkable.
