DarkElf (2453), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 28, 2005 (Draft: Big Horse Brew Pub in Hood River, OR) A pretty standard, but well-crafted American brown ale, malty, mildly sweet, gently roasty and chocolaty, mildly bitter in the finish. Delicate aroma of lightly toasty malt in the nose, and I can’t pick out any hops, so in general, it’s not especially aromatic. Medium bodied, round on the palate, with a reasonably clean and somewhat crisp finish. Amber/brown color. Light tan head quickly settles to a film, leaving some patchy lace on the glass. Normally a pretty generic style of beer that can often be on the boring side, but this is quite enjoyable. 11026 (1886), USA Aug 7, 2005 Tap. Clear and brown in color with just a touch of red highlights. Fair light tan head is moderately retentive and leaves moderate lacing. Light aroma of chocolate and nuttiness, very earthy hop presence. Lighter side of medium bodied and decently carbonated. Big hop bitterness that is somewhat shocking. A bit overdone for style but interesting to drink.
