3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 11026 (1772) - USA - JUL 24, 2005
Tap. LIghtly opaque, medium amber in color. Fair sized white head fades to a film and leaves excellent lacing. Nice earthy and citric hop aroma. Goes a bit skunky towards the end of the glass, a bit lightstruck from sitting in the sun. Light to medium bodied. Well balanced with lingering bitterness. Pleasant.

A very boring pale ale, like most of the beers I tried at this brewery. Well balanced, but that is about it, very little malt background, light, bodied, with some crispy hoppiness.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - AUG 28, 2005
(Draft: Big Horse Brew Pub in Hood River, OR) On my brewery tour of Oregon, it’s been awhile since I’ve had a quality American Pale Ale, but this is a very fine one. Mild, lightly sweet, and slightly grain malt base allows the tasty, lightly citrusy, moderately bitter hops to shine without stomping the taste buds. The subdued, but balanced nose is lightly malty and pleasantly hoppy. Golden color is fairly cloudy in appearance. Light-to-medium bodied, clean, with a crisp finish. The off-white head rises to half an inch, and as it slowly settles to a film, it leaves a few streaks of lace on the glass. A well-crafted, perfectly balanced APA that doesn’t try to be an IPA, but would make a great session beer for me. Solid.

Faint misty amber, very light head & lacing. Aroma is dusty & sulfuric like fireworks & hops. Light caramel, sweaty flavor. Balanced tail, not that great. Next!
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Sham (1846) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JUL 20, 2004
Flaxen, little head and sparse lacing. Woody and earthy aromas. Some malts. Flavors are of light, earthy hops and some bitter notes. Bland, boring pale.

Yellow-orange with no head whatsoever. Pungently moldy, like an old apple. Not good.
