3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, USA - AUG 28, 2005
(Draft: Big Horse Brew Pub in Hood River, OR) A pleasant English Bitter, lightly malty with minimal sweetness, and a mild hops bitterness that properly has the most stature. The nose is fairly light, with a gently hoppy aroma. Light-to-medium bodied, dusty and dry on the palate. Light amber in color. Tall, off-white head slowly settles to a thin layer, and does a fine job leaving plenty of patchy lacing on the glass. Unassuming, soft spoken, and easy to drink.

Bright amber. Has a slightly distracting berryish fruitiness along with a complex toasty-crusty malt and lightly fruit hop. Moderate bitterness. Quite a bit more toasty-woody character on the palate leading to a relatively quick, dry finish.

Starts off being a very decent ESB, right up until the finish. It is harsh and astrigent and chalky, everything else about the beer is very solid, and nicely balanced. Great caramel flavors and some decent hoppy bitterness.
