3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle split at Mother Arch, picked up from a supermarket in HI, 03/01/15.
Light black with a decent tan covering that retains well.
Nose is dark malt, lactic tang, nice toasted coconut strokes, cocoa rub, toffee, nutty.
Taste comprises more lactic soured fuit notes, Bounty Bar, dark fruit rinds, toffee, chocolate, light charr.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close.
The other two beers I picked up from this brewer were pleasant surprises in terms of quality, this one was just OK, a touch too much lactic/fruit tarteness - perhaps a mild infection?

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pour is dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma and flavor contain notable roasted malt with a distinct coffee kick and a light toasted coconut note. Could just be the malt but I have convinced myself that I taste coconut. Really clean and full yet drinkable. Aromatic and tasty. Solid beer.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting.
Body is dark brown to black.
Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain, coffee), with notes of vanilla, coconut, bile, sour apple.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
The first bottle I bought (at Foodland in Kapa’a) was insanely infected...nothing but foam on pouring and ridiculously sour. This bottle (from the wine market in Lihu’e) is infected as well, but not nearly as badly. It’s still quite sour and unpleasant, but obviously this is a recurring problem that needs fixing. Sad because they appear to be good brewers, maybe just not the best sanitizers yet.
