From old notes.
Firm purply ruby bodied. Good depth. Well balanced. Some restrained Candy sugar in there. Strong. Sound head retwntion. A bit hollow in the middle but the end picks up. Well made.

Bright bottled at Dover Beer Fest 2007. Mmmmmmmmm. This is lovely. Richly fruity with lovely dark notes of chocolate and coffee. Smoothly sweet, yet with enough raspy, barky bitterness to provide plenty of interest. The taste is quite sublime. Not aggressive, yet packed with goodness and flavour. There’s a bags of toffee and caramel. Mmmmm. Gosh this is tasty stuff - I’m loving this.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Ruby colour with lasting bubbly beige head. Syrupy malt aroma. Bit of toffee/coffee. The syrupy malt is balanced by some hop spicyness on the end. Toffee is good. Bit of vanilla.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A strong winter ale from a well-established microbrewery in Newcatle upon Tyne. Deep ruby colour. Malty and fruity, with lots of juicy ripe cherry character. Tastes rather innocuous for its strength. Warming, but not too sickly. Full bodied, but not too chewy. A sour edge on the finish makes for a bittersweet experience.Handpump, Head of Steam, Euston, London NW1
