3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Vintage bottle tasted at 666 in Uccle near Brussels. Creamy, loose, off-white head over a deeply bronze beer, but not opaquely black. Pleasant aroma of home made caramel, chocolate and cocoa, bourbon, raisins, banana, sherry-like oxidation and walnuts. Candied sweet onset, but not too sugary or cloying, candied dates and raisins, banana, strong hearty umami flavour, soft carbo, roasted and caramelly malts, bittering and rich, toasted bread, peppery hops and brandy-like alcohol in the finish. Belgian style stout, not as roasted and ’dense’ as many other stouts, but a very good beer for sure.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours near black in color with a nice and steady off-white head. Roasted coffee and dark somewhat bitter notes in aroma at first. After that appears some hints of nuttyness and dried dark fruits. Lots of roasted notes in taste with additional notes of some licorice and dark fruits. After awhile some slightly bitter and green herbal notes gets to one. Cocoa and coffee with subtle fruity citrus notes in finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
75cl. bottle. Pours a very deep red color - almost black, with a two-finger foamy light brown head. Aroma of malt and coffee. Taste of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, licorice, fruits and yeast. The finish is dry, bitter and a bit sour. Medium body and average carbonation. Well, it looks great in that bottle and with that label, but after two years in my cupboard I’d hoped for something more. It’s a bit boring really - not bad just not anything special. I think it gave me more pleasure looking at the unopened bottle.

At moedic lambic, on tap. Coffee, chocolate, toasty. Good depth. Not the intensity of an imperial stout, but excellent.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark reddish brown, beige uneven fluffy head. Smells of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, red fruits and some dough. Very rich taste, a lot of roasted malts and chocolate again with a lot of coffee, sweeter than what expected. Some hops in the finish.

Draft at Chez Moeder, rated from memory. Black w thin head. Roasty bitterness with some mild smokey notes. Decent stout - especially for a Belgian which is rare!
