3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 nate2g (1548) - Marlborough, - SEP 26, 2009
Draught at Big Man Beer, Hanoi. Golden with a medium white head. Subdued floral notes but the flavour of malt and citrusy/spicy hops is more evident. Good carbonation and bitterness in the finish. Not a bad pils.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 6, 2009
Golden-tan colour. Thin head. Aroma is lightly fruity with some wonderbready malt character. Thin body with some undue stickiness and swilly fruity notes. The flaws are more annoying than overwhelming. That said, the beer is subpar by Hanoi brewpub standards.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Beershine (4710) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - OCT 23, 2009
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2009 Draft as Big Man "Brown" beer. Distinguished from the "black." This isn’t "brown," though, it’s golden-orange with a nice head and decent retention. Aroma is fresh, brisk, nicely hopped and floral. The palate is sticky. The flavors are off. It’s very sweet, yeasty, and tacky like orange candy. The hops in the aroma have completely vanished. Very disappointing, one of the few beer duds in Hanoi. @ Saigon, is a better beer, not as sweet but still fruity and mild = 5-4-6-3-12 = 3.0
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 25, 2008
Draught at the brewpub, Hanoi location. Clear pale bronze colour, creamy head. Orangey nose with a touch of metal. Medium dry with clean rounded mouthfeel. Some unassaulting but persistant orangey saaz hops sits in the back. Finishes with medium bitterness. Very typical Czech/Vietnamese brewpub pilsener.
