22oz bottle. Pours a cloudy, deep amber-brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, light tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty solid with clean, fruity caramels, some chocolate, a light roast, and some bready toast. Flavor is similar. Sweeter caramels with some bready toast and a moderate fruitiness up front. A bit more of a roasty dryness is present with some chocolate and earth. Finishes with a nice, clean earth, roast, and light grassy hop that leaves a dry, light bitterness mixed with a moderate caramel fruitiness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a medium, smooth body and moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent Dunkel. Well balanced and easy drinking. Nice, fruity caramel and light chocolate with a solid earthy, roasty balance. Not bad.

Pours deep red to black. Nise is roasted malts and caramel. No hops. Light hop and malt flavors. Light and drinkable. not bad but bland and boring.

phaleslu (3534) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Draft sample at Microfest 2012. Pours a deep, brown-hued amber with a finger of off-white head. Notes of toasted and chocolate malts, sweet bread, brown sugar, nuts, and a hint of coffee. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a nutty mouthfeel. Not bad.

Bottle. Medium copper amber, clear, with an off white head. Aroma is lightly roasty and choclatey. The standout flavour is chocolate with a little sweet caramel, but the palate is on the thin side. Nice enough.

beernbourbon (997) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 6, 2012
Bottle thanks to jmagnus67. Pour is clear deep copper with a large off-white head. Aroma is mostly lightly roasted malt with hints of coffee and a very light sweetness. Very well-balanced aroma. Flavor also dominated by lightly toasted malt, faint coffee, a nice cookie sweetness, and some very subtle spicy hop notes. The best word for this beer is: balance. Very well done and really easy to drink. Great beer in a usually-boring style. Loved it.

Pours a slightly hazy amber with a full off-white head that laces nicely. Aroma is toasted malt and cocoa powder. Taste is sweet roasted malt, unsweetened baker’s chocolate and just a kiss of hop bitterness to round it out. Once again, another really good effort from this small southern Illinois micro.

This is a nice, malty amber brew. It’s a bit cloudy w/ only a small head. The nose is very mildly roasty but, once tasted, this has a porterish quality w/ very, nice fresh-tasting roast malt character as the centerpiece. This is rather low in hops and relies mostly on roasted character to balance the very slight sweetness. Carbonation is on the low side, lending this a creamy but drinkable texture. I’m into it and looking forward to trying more from Big Muddy.

Bought it thinking it was a Munich dunkel. It is a dark brownish amber. Smell is light slightly metallic, hoppy. Tastes like a standard brewpub brown ale/red ale/amber ale combo. Not interesting in the least bit. Drinkable because of the lack of character. Do we really need this many amber ales?

22oz bomber from Pick’s poured into a lager glass. Pours a clear nut brown with about 1 finger of white head. Slight hop aroma with some toast and chocolate. Taste is lightly sweet and lightly sour. Chocolate and grapefruit. Interesting combination. Light bodied with a thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. Not really my style but absolutely drinkable.
