COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The light red and amber coloring of this beer is a result of using special crystalized barley. This smooth style starts off with a slightly sweet mellow mouth feel and finishes up with a clean finish. Using fresh floral hops at the start of the boil allows the complex subtle maltiness to shine. A classic! Pours a light brown with a bit of white head that dissipates quickly. Smell is fairly sweet, with a bit of fresh fruit, like apples and raspberry, and a bit of citrus, quite refreshing. Palate is light bodied with aggressive but short lasting carbonation. Taste is sweet at first, then gets a bit of a bitter hop kick, then goes quickly to nothing, with no real aftertaste to speak of. Kind of boring, but the smell is decently interesting. Probably best served quite cold on a patio.

650 ml bottle from the brewery. Pours a clear orange colour with white head that quickly recedes to nothing. Aroma is sweet with caramel, grains and light fruitiness. Flavour is also fairly sweet with caramel and fruit as well as a bit of graininess. Mellow carbonation. Decent.

2014-01-18. Crisp golden amber body small head. Aroma is sweetly malty, caramel touches. Flavour is similarly sweet with caramel malt character and mild diacetyl notes. Average plus bodied palate, light carbonation. Draft sampler at the brewpub, Ottawa

tap on the premises. clear golden orange - not remotely close to a red, with a small white cap, little retention and lacing. caramel and butter - sweetish honeyed very lightly toasted maltiness - barley sugar, earthy and grassy, chalk, underlying fruity notes. average carbonation, light body - almost watery, bland herbal-grassy finish. blah.

Pretty boring red lager. Average carbonation. Pours reddish clear amber. Finishes a little sweet with some off-tasting sourness - even the gold is better than this. Doesn’t come together well. Tap at brewpub.

Clear amber pour with a busy white head. Head faded while I was opening up ratebeer to rate this. Unique earthy smell. Smells ’healthy’ for some reason. Grains, malts. Interesting that odd taste carries into the mouth. A very unique taste. I wonder if it’s the Big Rig hops. I have one more to try from them and I must remember to compare the two. Somewhat rich and thick tasting which is surprising given the look of the beer. Very clean finish. Really liked this.

Sample at brew pub. Clear moderate amber with a thin white rim. Reasonable light fruitiness, a touch of butterscotch, light caramel notes, tight because it’s cold. Medium body, weak effervescence. Light roasted malts, a bit earthy, more restrained han he nose, only a touch fruity; dry with moderate bitterness and a somewhat weak light roasted malt finish.

Pours a hazy dark gold with a small white head. Aroma is small caramel and bready grains. Taste is small bready grains and faint caramel. Lacking as a red.

Amber pour, small white head. Solid cereals, grassy hops, light caramels, and toffee. Solid mouthfeel, a tad low on the carb. Finish is a toich too sweet, but the bitterness kicks in and helps to balance it out.
